Fearing risks of Prolia

I have taken Prolia for about ten years. No side effects after first couple of shots. Dexa numbers better. No fractures. Only when I took a second Amgen monoclonal antibody, Repatha, did I have serious side effects. Two monoclonal antibodies at the same time seemed dangerous. For me anyway.

Tatiana. May I ask your age? I know some women who are considered elderly may choose to stay on Prolia until they die. I am considered elderly at 76 but I am opting to stop prolia after 3 shots. My neighbor who is 66 stopped Prolia after 10 years and went on reclast for the transition

My endocrinologist said that I could do a smaller dose of reclast to counter rebound effect of stopping Prolia and that I might be able to have a drug holiday. Part of that also hinges on my being on bhrt for a year and the positive effects that may have on rebound. I have already taken alendronate for 5 years, forteo for two and evenity for 1. If I live long enough I will probably return to Prolia until I die. I have had no noticeable side effects with any

@leslieb52 Hi my Prolia twin! Promised an update of my drip to dermatologist. Nothing much to report only that she's taken a biopsy but I won't have results until 3 Feb as I'm going away next week for 8 days so will get results when I see her again. However, she thinks it may be an autoimune rash which who knows what could have triggered it. Hopefully nothing more serious! I'm still thinking the Prolia's caused it as it's a known side effect whether autoimune or otherwise (I don't really know what autoimune means other than it's the body recognising something strange has been put in there! I'll be disappointed if it is the Prolia as I would think if it is I'll need to change to a bisphosphinate (sorry about my spelling). If the biopsy shows autoimune then from there I'll need a blood test which hopefully will show what is causing it. Hope everyone who reads this are all well.

How quickly after the shot did the rash appear?
You gave me the tip of drinking a lot of water before and after the shot. Any other tips?

@leslieb52 Sort of Vacation. Visiting my daughter and grandkids in Qld. I've from Victoria. About 2 hour flight. Not me that gave you the drinking water tip. That's if you take Fosamax which is a pill and can give you reflux if you don't drink lots of water after you take it. We don't need to do that on prolia. I think this rash came out after about the 4th shot which I got in March 2025. I didn't really notice it until around June but around that time I had a COVID shot so who knows?? Side effects with Prolia can happen at any time, doesn't necessarily have to be straight after you get the shot. I have heard that the longer you're on it, the more likely you are to get a side effect. Having said that, I've been totally fine with it so in a way I'm hoping the rash isn't from that because it really has been ok. Best of luck with your first injection. Just know that there a lots of people who don't have side effects, in fact the majority, so I'm sure you'll be just fine. xo
