Clearing Mucus Plugs
My last CT scan showed an increase in mucus plugs in my lungs. I am consistent in my airway clearance protocol, and have been on Brinsupri 3 months. My sputum has diminished considerably since Brinsupri, but mucous plugs have increase. Has anyone had success in clearing mucous plugs and what has worked for you?

Thank you Scoop.
I now have an appt with a private lung specialist next week to review treatment of overlapping respiratory problems...hope to get more clarity on a few issues then. 🙏

2 Reactions@joyeous So true.
Look how long it took for the medical field to understand BE aside from emphysema etc. or how longs it sometimes takes to find a doctor that understands what to do for BE patients. Learnings and answers come but not always as soon as needed.
Research, research....yet no matter how much I did of that before finally getting the doctor's attention to my saying "something is wrong" the answer didn't come until he felt a C Scan was necessary....due to my 35lb weight loss over the year's time.

3 Reactions@blm1007blm1007 that’s why I totally believe that BE was misdiagnosed as emphysema or Bronchitis for YEARS!!! I think in the past Dr.s associated that if you had increased mucus and SOB. It was COPD.

2 Reactions@spider109 I believe that too. And now, as a result of "incidental" findings of Bronchiectasis when doing screening lung scans on previous smokers, I believe that radiologists are more apt to recognize it too. My own Bronchiectasis was diagnosed from a lung x-ray many years after my symptoms began. I later learned that the CNP "didn't like what she saw" on an x-ray for pneumonia, and had the pulmonologist in the clinic look at it.

3 ReactionsI use Albuterol & 7% Saline solution twice a day and have a problem bringing out the mucus using the Aerobika. A good friend who is a RN-PHD gave me some Elderberry Tinture which I took for about 6 weeks which I shared with my husband who has a bad heart and he said it makes him feel better. Was running out of the Tinture so checked some things out on line and found that Tinture & Extract are the same recipe except for alcohol which is in the Tinture. During my search I found Mullein Extract and ordered it along with a Mullein capsule which is supposed to "clean lungs". I started bringing up the mucus from my lungs by the carload! I had a CT just this past week and learned that the mucus buildup in my right lower lung area has been resolved! I let my doctor (Mayo in Jax) know what I had been using - hoping to hear back after the weekend how she feels about the Mullein. PS - I will be 90 years old come November.

1 ReactionI found it on Amazon - Nutra Harmony is the store.
While in the hospital, someone on staff called them "pearls" because, they can form into a ball shape (so they look like pearls). They are the diameter of the tube they came out of. They can be very rubbery and go back to the original shape, if you drag them apart with 2 fingers.
