Clearing Mucus Plugs

Posted by deestrada @deestrada, Jan 1 2:49pm

My last CT scan showed an increase in mucus plugs in my lungs. I am consistent in my airway clearance protocol, and have been on Brinsupri 3 months. My sputum has diminished considerably since Brinsupri, but mucous plugs have increase. Has anyone had success in clearing mucous plugs and what has worked for you?

@1fancydancear Sooo scary! Pneumonia will do that. How’s your airway clearance routine? Twice a day with 7% saline I find very helpful. I’m also on Brinsupri, which has made a positive difference. Wishing you better days ahead.

Hey,
Consistent with airway clearance and 7% saline every day, 2x per day. Saline once per day if not sick.
Any side effects from the Brinsupri. Infectious Disease doc sent me to see the Pulmonologist
last month to see how he felt about me going on Brinsupri. Pulmonologist said he would not recommend that for me at this time. Not sure what Infectious Disease will say about that the next time I meet with him. I was doing good about not picking up bacteria for the last 4 months, then I went and contracted RSV at Christmas. I can't shake it. Been on Prednisone, a broad-spectrum antibiotic, and Azithromycin. Waiting on a chest X-ray. Maybe tomorrow they will get it. I really think it has gone from RSV to Pseudomonas or Pneumonia Just got to get the correct meds. If it is not Pneumonia, then another bacterium. Turning in sputum samples tomorrow.
But very curious about the side effects of Brinsupri, I really think Pulmonologist did not want me on it until they see further test results of people on it already for a long period of time.

@scoop Great picture and description Scoop. Not necessarily hard but I would imagine if they sat in the lungs long enough they might become hard????
In December I brought up a mucus plug that was nearly one inch long and hope it represented my clearing the lower left lobe that the last C Scan indicated the area had worsened, plugging.
I believe that postural drainage, which I am fortunate to be able to do, along with my doing percussion on my lungs...front and back...helps tremendously.

@susanrg20 When I had the most recent plug as I mentioned above it looked as if it was two separate ones that became attached. That's what it looked like to me. Don't know but as we know anything is possible and they don't have all the answers....yet!!!!???
