Please Share 3 Things You Appreciate about Being Old
It's Thanksgiving, so I'm looking at the positive. Some folks don't like the word "old" but I don't mind it. You can substitute "aging" if you prefer! I'm thrilled to be 71 and looking at 72. Due to serious health concerns in my youth I never expected to make it this far. So here goes--and I hope you can join in.
My Three Positive Things
1. I know what my ethics and beliefs are, and I'm no longer worried I might betray them because of outside pressure.
2. I can tell a good story based on life experience.
3. I'm less self critical. My mom told me that if she made a mistake she'd say "you're so clumsy" to herself. When she turned 80 she changed and told herself "you're doing great!"

6 ReactionsI love naps! I've asked a grandchild if they wanted to nap with Gramma. They say no way, I hate naps! I tell them that when they are my age, they're going to love naps!

2 ReactionsI have enjoyed these posts. One thing is people give my their seats ; it is nice. I always say thank you. No one says thank you anymore. Second thing is people include me. i always felt that there was competition is human relationships when I was younger, for boys, girls, the best of anything. That doesn't go on now. Third, I can say what I think. Yes, I guess I have become an old person who doesn't use a filter. Still I think my blood pressure is lower because of this.

One day, we had some friends ask if we would take care of their 4-year old son while they went to the twin cities. The boy was well on his way of being labeled "hyperactive" and my wife said okay. We had two little girls, 3 and 4. After lunch, my wife the three of them to take a nap. Our girls grabbed their favorite book and laid down on their beds and were soon asleep. The other one, said, "I don't take naps!" My wife told him, "That's okay, it is quiet time for a while. Here are some books to look at as you relax." Five minutes later, he was sound asleep and slept for two hours. Different child woke up. His mother asked my wife what she did to him. My wife said, "Nothing, he just took a nap after lunch."
I'm 83, and I usually take a nap after breakfast. I read while I eat. My breakfast time is an hour or more.

All the diet programs in the world, it seems to me, tell me not to do anything else while eating. I love to read while I eat. I'm happy to find someone else who reads while eating! Keeps my brain active and me going. (I'm 85) May you continue to enjoy your reading and eating for a long time to come!

5 ReactionsHaving spent six years in the National Guard, I learned to eat fast! Which is horrible and you don't get to enjoy what you are eating. Since then, I slow down and enjoy the tastes. When I went Vegan, surprise, surprise, vegetables do have a taste of their own when you stop putting butter on them!
My breakfast is usually my biggest meal of the day and I have figured out that six different cereals--unsweetened--adjusted for one ounce serving is 28 carbs. I have measured all of my breakfast food and they total 85 carbs. Around March of last year I stopped drinking coffee (I don't know why.) and have a 12 ounce cup of tea instead. I use Vegan frozen dinners and also buy "meats" and "cheeses" from The Herbivorous Butcher Shop in Minneapolis. They have a web site and they will ship anywhere in the USA. I love their cheeses and also their plant based "Ribs", especially the Hawaiian ribs. Sometimes I watch TV or computer games while I eat my dinner.
While I have nearly 3000 books, fiction and non-fiction, my vocabulary sucks, and I subscribe to math and logic puzzle mags. The basic word math puzzle is son to father asking for more money for college. The amount is the solution to the puzzle: SEND + MORE = MONEY and the easy first clue is M = 1.

Saying "Thank you" in a restaurant is important. It doesn't matter what the servers brought, more water, hot water, coffee, or the food you ordered. Saying that thank you gives them respect and acknowledges their existence and costs nothing but some time being polite and appreciative.

6 Reactions@joanland enjoy your meals the way you like ! Not to worry, many people do that- it is boring just chewing dutifully without any other thing happening, be it reading, listening to music or watching videos (calm ones !).
