Low-grade fevers weeks after COVID: Is this common with long COVID?

Posted by pdd @pdd, Feb 28, 2022

I was hospitalized for COVID and home since 2/3. On 2/24 started to have low grade fevers in the evening. Tylenol takes care of the fever. I am on home oxygen still but improving. Mobility and strength is better. Important to note immunosuppression due to cancer therapy a year ago. Lymphocytes are still depleted. Is this common with long COVID?

My temp is usually well below "normal," but often rises to low grade. The variation often makes me feel awful. I just don't seem to be able to regulate my temperature post-covid

Interesting-how long has that been going on?
By low-grade do you mean 99-something?

I had Covid for the fourth time in December 2023, and I came out of that with Long Covid. One of my symptoms was a daily low-grade fever (anywhere from 99 to 101), increasing with exposure to heat and with exertion. I finally was tested at Mayo Clinic, and it turns out I don't sweat much at all any more, which explains why my temperature goes up. It's not technically a fever at all; it's technically just an elevated body temperature. For me it has become a sign that I need to rest and let my body cool down - get into a cooler environment and sit quietly for a while. Fortunately it does seem to be improving very slowly. I haven't seen a temp in the 100s for several months.

What did Mayo say about this? Do they think Covid caused some type of dysautomia?
I hope you’re drinking plenty of water. Sometimes I neglect to do that in cold weather.

Have fevers most nights about 100. Still can't figure out the sleeping. Taking xanax .5 mg to help. When I go without sleep I get sick again. Not covid but its symtpoms. Have now started to cough more than I have yet.

@sonyamagee1964 I suggest TRAZADONE to help you sleep, instead of a benzodiazapine.Trazadone will put you to sleep.Been taking this for years...75mg's before bed. It's NON narcotic and I've never noticed any side effects...ever.Benzo's are addictive and can be problematic.God Bless and hang in there...it's gonna change.

I was diagnosed with Covid on Dec 5th. Took Paxlovid for 5 days. After 5days I had few days thzt I was feeling better and just like that I started to feel sick again with runny nose, cough and low grade fever. Today 12/17 I realized I have lost the sense of taste and smell. I remembered that my PCP told me that there are many patients who experience Covid rebound but the doctors can’t understand why especially when a person has been treated for Covid. I am taking Robitussin DM for my cough which has subsided a little. I feel weak so I can say that Covid doesn’t want to leave my body. I tested Positive for Covid again. Does anyone lose the sense of taste and smell? If yes, how long it lasts? Thank you.

@naiviv I also had Paxlovid...felt super good for a couple of weeks.THen I got my symptoms again. Not worse though. So I think it helped regulate my body misfires. That was about a year ago.Been taking NAC 3200 mgs for a while now.Feeling almost myself again...Thank God.My taste and smell come and go.I can taste most things okay. There's HOPE!5 years of long covid,I think it's just about over.Hang in there, things will get better...

@kudzu Yes, that's it exactly. Apparently Covid caused dysautonomia, with various effects including postural dizziness, poor temperature regulation, and anhydrosis (lack of sweating).

Thanks for the reminder to drink plenty of water. I do drink a lot of water - I'm known for carrying water bottles around! 🙂
