Cost of stem cell therapy at Mayo

I have a feeling we will only get this type of health assistance if we are young and by the time we really need it the price will be low enough for most people to afford or even get.......same with Cas9 CRISPR......I am 60 and sure wish I could use these methods of stem cell therapy and DNA-RNA cures and life extension since I can tell it would work and give me more years than most of the men in my family history and it would let me continue my work at CERN and actually be around when we get far beyond the Higgs Boson instead of just leaving all of this to people of the future since they tend to forget us very soon.

I had PRP and Stem Cells a couple months ago. I advise: get PRP 1st, for $500. then see what happens. ................Then go for Stem Cells.

I believe this is an old thread, but I'll try my luck and see. I have had bilateral release surgery for my knees recently (not knee replacement). I have had knee pain past 3 years and had to get a surgery done, since no conventional procedure helped. Even after three months of surgery, the pain hasn't gone. I am frustrated with this lifestyle, feel like a couch potato, so wanted to explore the Stem Cell Treatment. Can someone tell if Mayo performs this procedure? Also, any additional info on the success rate would be very helpful.

Hi, @gunnychahal. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'm sorry to hear that despite your knee surgery, the pain hasn't gone. Indeed, frustrating. Good for you for wanting to push on from feeling like a "couch potato," as you called it, and regain some function and freedom from pain.

Hoping that @bernese53 @oldkarl @jeannegordon4 and @mari might join in to tell you about what they have learned related to stem cell therapy. Hoping that you might share more, specifically, mari, on your suggestion to get platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections first before proceeding to stem cell treatment. I believe you were indicating that you might have gotten the relief you needed at a lesser cost by starting with PRP?

@lisalucier : Hi Lisa. Thanks for the prompt response. Yes, I have been doing Physical Therapy for past 3 months or so. I am still going to continue to do it but I am not sure if it will help, specially if the underlying issue hasn't been fixed by the surgery. I used to have Lateral knee pain (PFS) but after surgery, as per the doc, looks like I developed Anterior pain due to Tendonitis. As such, I have more bad days as opposed to good. Instead of going for another surgery, I'd rather try out the Stem Cell/PRP treatment, hoping it helps in bringing back my day to day life, if not sports.

It's not expected that Stem Cells can help bone - on - bone Yet. This is in my email signature: (Big Pharma controls FDA. Pharmaceutical Companies want to sell us pain drugs. CONTACT U.S. Senators and say WE WANT STEM CELL RESEARCH). I had stem Cells + PRP injected into 5 joints - after awhile I realized it did not work. But, I did feel rejuvenated. I have more flexibility - I can reach for things with confidence - better balance and stronger. Getting back to my normal.

Someone in my art class told me about getting PRP every year and that now she can do a jig. She demonstrated. So try it - you may love it. Or get S Cells out of the country. I wish you all well.

Thanks for the response. My condition isn't bone on bone yet, but the pain is never ending. I am hoping the injections can bring in some respite. I'll certainly consider the PRP first. I am trying to get in touch with an Ortho surgeon in Salt Lake City ( sadly we don't have a Mayo facility in here).
