Hss your loved one been prescribed Seroquel for delusions?
Has anyone had there loved one's prescribed Seroquel for Alzheimer's with delusions and hallucinations ? Her doctor just prescribed it for her, and all that I have read it is not a first Choice ....only a last resort !
Any one had it for your LO and how did it work ? Thanks Barb

I can only say what my loved ones experienced with it. My cousin who had Vascular dementia, later on suspected of being mixed with Alz,, took a small dose at night and it helped her a great deal with rest and calming her agitation. She also took Cymbalta and Ativan as needed. When she was first prescribed Seroquel, I read a lot of warnings that concerned me, but after reading many reports from family members of dementia patients, my concerns dissipated. Of course, it’s a risks benefit decision. Family members who observe the distress realize how helpful the med can be, despite the risk.
When my dad who had Alz and was suffering from agitation, he was also prescribed Seroquel and it helped a great deal with no side effects. He had to gradually increase the dosage.
Within the online caregiver community, I found it was commonly prescribed and how it worked in the real world. Everyone is different of course. I hope you get other input.

4 ReactionsMy husband was put on Seroquel this past Summer after going through some seriously rough patches with his behavior…delusions and paranoia. He was on it for a couple of months but it didn’t help as much as hoped for. The neurologist then changed him to Risperidone which seems to be helping better. I have read where some people with dementia are on no medication at all…I have a hard time under standing that. I can’t imagine where my husband, or myself for that matter, would be without it. I guess the disease affects everyone differently.

2 ReactionsBarb52, my wife has tried just about every medication available for an "end stage" (her neurologist's term) dementia patient, including Seroquel. but nothing really worked for her. Then it was suggested to try CBD/THC (which is not available in our state). I tried it and it works for her! she is no longer taking any prescriptions and I give her a chewy (5mg THC & 5mg CBD) a little after 2pm then again around 7pm. She is calm and sleeps all night. If I forget to give it to her, then the hallucinations/wildness starts. I know it's not for everyone but it works for my wife when the prescriptions didn't work.

1 ReactionMy husband’sonly prescriptions ( he is on many supplements) are for sleep but they are not working this week. Trazadone 100mg at bedtime and Klonopin .125 mg dissolvable in the middle of the night. He also gets Melatonin and Theanine an hour before bedtime.
But lately he is getting up 3-4 times, goes to the bathroom and I have to direct him there and get him back to bed so my sleep is completely disturbed- making me very cranky. He is also mean and belligerent during those wake up times.
I need to find another solution but I hate more meds as he has a hard time feeling alert in the morning.
I’m ready to talk to his docs but I’m also ready to try the CBD but would want it under a doctors care.

2 Reactions@maryvc , eventually with the progression of my dad’s condition, we focused on getting through the days and nights. Daddy’s agitation and unrest became pervasive. Him being refreshed and functional wasn’t possible. We would have tried CBD if it was legal here.

5 ReactionsI just weaned my wife off of the lowest dose of Seroquel. It's not only a drug used reluctantly for the elderly but it had no effect on my wife's hallucinations. She has been thinking there are two of me and from a few to several other people living with us upstairs. IF our caregiver recommends a newer med, we'll see.

6 Reactions@maryvc Suggestion. Amazon has a package of four "night lights" that have several modes. Always on, lights up when motion in detected, on/off at dusk/daylight. $26.49. I got these in Oct. after she fell in the bathroom. Now with the light set to turn on when motion is detected as soon as she swings a leg out to the floor the light comes on and doesn't turn off until one minute after she is back in bed. And I can sleep through it, though I know she is up. I also got
Toliet safety rails to help her raise herself up from the toliet. The other light are strategically place through out the first floor making softly lit areas for both of us.
SEE BELOW.
AUVON Plug-in LED Backlit Night Light with Motion Sensor & Dusk to Dawn Sensor, Dimmable Amber Nightlight with 1-50 lm Adjustable Brightness for Bedroom, Bathroom, Stairs, Hallway (4 Pack)
If Amazon doesn't have it, it isn't made. Except for food we always check Amazon first. Our nearest good shopping area is 15 miles away.
