Brinsupri follow-up
It seems a bunch of us have started Brinsupri. Let's use this thread for discussion. If you are taking Brinsupri have you noticed anything different, including changes to bronchiectasis or side effects? How long have you been on it?

Hi! I just started Brinsupri yesterday morning and by the end of the day my nose was running. Did this happen for anyone else?
I also want to note here that a couple of years ago I started NAC (600 mg once a day) and that has really helped to thin my mucus. When I do airway clearance I have very little to cough up.
I have had exacerbations though at least 2-3 times a year for many years.

1 ReactionI’m not on the Brinsupri and can’t answer question, but want to welcome you to our group of helpful people.
Do you use 7% saline? That seems to have decreased my respiratory infections, though we’ll see how this winter goes.

2 Reactions@julieb28 I've been on it for 10 weeks and also take a daily allegra pill for my year round allergies. So my nose runs from time to time. Hard to know what causes what. Brinsupri is a medication that takes 3-6 months to experience its full benefits. Hope it helps you.

2 ReactionsI started taking Brinsupri on 10/29/25. On 11/1/25 I had a sudden onset of chills & temp of 102. Took 2 tylenol and temp went down and I felt fine. Did not notify MD. On 11/17/25, I woke at 2 am with chills, very SOB, Oxygen at 80. Medics took me to hospital where I was treated for hypoxia & temp of 103. I recovered quickly and by 8 am, again, felt fine. I was admitted to the hospital and it was determine that I had strepococcus pneumonia. IV therapy of Cefepime for 5 days with nebulizer treatments 4xdaily. I was discharged on Levoquin 750 mg orally for 4 additonal days. Today, I am feeling well but the cough continues and I am having difficulty bringing up the sputum. Brinsupri is on hold and frankly I am afraid to restart it as with previous infections I have never run a high fever. I have resumed Duoneb following my saline nebulizer 2 times daily followed by the chest compression. (I have also done the compression mid day). My energy level is good, I feel great (except for the nagging cough). Interested if anyone else has had a URI (specific to pneumonia)

3 Reactions@cdward1028 It sounds like you may have been brewing something before you started Brinsupri. Pneumonia is a risk factor in bronchiectasis. Good that you were diagnosed and treated and that you now feel good. When I've had pneumonia it takes me at least 2 weeks to get back to baseline. While on Brinsupri I developed a lower respiratory infection (LRI) after dental work. Very common occurrence according to pulmonologist. Brinsupri can take 3-6 months to work.

1 Reaction@pammie52 I also get mine from Pantherx. They are wonderful and I can speak with their pharmacist at any time. They are extremely knowledgeable and helpful! The pharmacist I talked to explained exactly how the drug works which no one else has. So I have a clear understanding now!
I would highly recommend them!
Stellar customer service!

Lower RI after dental or on Brinsupri is common? Many here have noticed side effects or benefits from Brinsupri far before the 3 to 6 months. I do not think they are imagining them. To me it seems the drug has alot more side effects than we had anticipated.

3 Reactions@winterfelllvoyager75 Is there a chance you can tell the group of how it works? My understanding is that it blocks a pathway used by neutrophils (which cause inflammation). Am I right.

3 Reactions@wangling My doctor just ordered Brensupri for me last week so I haven’t started it yet, but he did say that with the 25mg dose some skin cancers were reported during trials. I was very surprised at this because I hadn’t heard or read that skin cancers were a side effect of Brensupri. But that could be the reason your pharmacist warned you to avoid sun exposure. Wondering if anyone else has any knowledge about this?
