Immunotherapy Scheduling

Posted by Susan, Volunteer Mentor @grammato3, Dec 5, 2024

I am totally new to Keytruda infusions, having only had one a week ago. I was under the impression I'd be routinely scheduled for these infusions every three weeks - on the same day of the week - but to date I've not gotten any information about my next one which ought to be in two weeks on a Wednesday. I've called scheduling twice but have not yet received notification. Is it common to not get notification of the date/time until a few days beforehand?

Thanks Bryan, Is folfox working for you? Is your cancer in remission? Do you have colorectal cancer?

Yes, thank you, I have and do use that the portal but there haven't been any appointment updates. I inquired once already through there so I suppose I'll have to just sit tight. It would be helpful, though, to at least know for sure the day of the week I'm scheduled so I can plan other appointments/activities around the infusion. I hope in time I'll get more into the routine.

@grammato3 my husband goes to immunotherapy every three weeks, at his appointment they give him the date of his next one, so he always knows and it’s the same day and time.

@cris2 Thank you, Yes, once things became more routine the schedule was easier to track and maintain.

I have been on Keytruda for about 6 months and always have my next appointment scheduled before I leave the office.

@jaxthecat How have you been doing on the Keytruda?

@jaxthecat How have those five months been, any fatigue or other issues that you've experienced or care to share?

Mine was scheduled a couple days later. Send a note through the Portal, I get my fastest results. Best of luck on your journey. It's not fun. But it is the best available.

I am tolerating every 3 weeks good. Fatigue is expected.
When we tried a double dose and going every 6 weeks, I had inflammation/stiffness in my legs which led to Prednisone to help.
Going back to the 3 week schedule.

@jaxthecat I had also been going every 6 weeks w/o any incident after the inital few treatments at 3 weeks. My treatment has been on hold since Sept when I experienced some significant GI issues that may or may not be Keytruda related - I'm having another GI biopsy next week to try to determine if Keytruda played a role - so when I meet with my oncologist on the 22nd I'll see if I can resume immonotherapy and if so, if I go back to every 3 weeks or maintain the 6.

Glad the 3 week schedule is working out for you. Are you anticipating a 2 year treatment plan?
