Posted by jessie1990 @jessie1990, Oct 30 1:48pm

Hi I've been diagnosed with a benign typical carcinoid tumor in my bronchi tube in right lung was found when I went to A&E with pneumonia back in July of this year I've had 2 bronchoscopys 2 biopys which showed benign carcinoid tumor I was sent for ct scan mri scan and pet scan pet scan was clear I was put under general anesthetic as my lung specialist said he might be able to remove tumor by going down my throat instead of haven surgery but didn't work but he was able to take 40% of tumor out as it was blocking my air way that's how pneumonia set in the 40% he removed also came back benign carcinoid 1 lymph node was removed and checked also clear now I need surgery to remove the rest I'm so confused as doctor said its a benign tumor then Google is telling me it's a low grade cancerous tumor but doctor nor lung specialist said anything about cancer just said its benign doesnt benign mean non cancerous and can any one tell me how surgery went thank you bless you all xx

@nannybb so weird how we have different names joys of living in different parts of the world can I ask how long you were in hospital for

@jessie1990 I asked the surgeon way before surgery what the usual time in the hospital looked like. He assured me I would most likely be in for 2-3 days. It all depends on how much fluid is draining out of the chest tube. I was released the very next day at about noon. His nurse practitioner came in and looked at the reservoir telling me the tube could come out. I tried to talk her into allowing me to stay longer. She was not having it. Also, I was told by the doctor someone on his team would be removing the chest tube. Nope. 4 nurses came in. One had been written off to be allowed to do the procedure, and the other three were there to witness how to do it. No supervisor. She did fine, but when I was going to med. school, there was always a head nurse who watched and gave advise. I mean, how can you get written off on knowing a procedure if there is no lead to witness your success, or lack thereof? Things have really changed since I went to school. Then for me to have to go back to have fluid removed from my lung a few weeks later? Wouldn't that seem like they took the tube out too soon? I hope your whole operation goes a lot smoother. Also, make sure they have a chest pillow for you to hold when you have to cough.

@jessie1990 Totally agree. My friend, I think I mentioned in here somewhere, was very mean and aggressive. I had to end the friendship. Not worth it. Plus she would hide what she was drinking and how much. To be fair, I think she drank because of physical pain, but to me, that is not a healthy solution.

@nannybb some people drink for stress and also like you said physical pain put they don't realise that they are going to deal with the same stressful situation they had before they drank and also the physical pain It's a vicious circle that will never end and they don't see a problem wit it

@jessie1990 I hope that for you too. My work gets my mind off of things. I tend to go over stuff in my mind. Like over and over. Not good. When I'm really working, I don't have a lot of time for ruminating.

@nannybb I worry about every thing I mean every thing my mind never shuts down untill I sleep if I sleep some nights are good others I could be awake all night long thinking and thinking noting worse been stuck in your own head

@jessie1990 I would think at the very least, it would shorten the time he has to be in there to get the rest of it. Your case seems way more complicated than mine was. I'm wondering if he is going to make sure he doesn't need to check more lymph nodes. Has he discussed that with you? I made the surgeon sit down and tell me every aspect of his plan. I even went back a second time after the biopsy and before the actual surgery.

@nannybb nope I've asked will it make it easier he said no it won't make surgery easier when I Got half of it removed I've ask about lymph nodes he said they were fine when I met wit surgeons understudy he said lymph node was clear more then likely all the rest are to because he said marcus the doctor that took half of it away only checked one lymph node

@jessie1990 Can you ask to meet him to ask more questions? That's kind of weird.

@nannybb I found it weird this man I've seen is about same age as me he said the main surgeon was in operating room he said where the tumor is sitting is right between 2 lobes of the lung they don't no what kind of surgery I need untill they go in and have a look themselves its either 2 lobes will be removed or they can cut each lobe where tumor is and retach the lobes again I have the option to leave it there but as I age it will cause problems more infections and I might not be suitable for surgery the older i get he said I'm young healthy my lung capacity is excellent so while I'm young get it done I've asked how long will surgery take he said he didn't no could be 2 hours 5 hours he said he can't give me a date but he will he in touch so last week lung nurse rang me said the middle of Dec for surgery the surgeon was out on annual leave

@jessie1990 Man. No wonder you are anxious. So your doctor is basically on holiday. Geez.
I know there is only so much they can determine with scans etc. until they get in to see it all. That's why my doctor did not know mine had shrunk. I was also a bit upset that I had spoken to the surgeon regarding what type of metal the staples would be beforehand. I figured that bridge had been crossed. He was vague then, and non-committal afterwards.
He THOUGHT they were titanium. I've been wondering if that has been the cause of my pain and inflammation. You would think that would be charted.
I had the same problem when I had to have screws put in my shoulder. Which still hurts years later.

@jessie1990 Have you tried listening to a meditation app. at night? I use a religious one, and it has helped me get to sleep along with the clamazapam. If not that, maybe calming music?

@jessie1990 They did not tell me that fact, but I realized it when I was first able to get up and walk the hall. It was cardiac and pulmonary unit combined. Makes sense. Try not to worry until something actually happens. Hard to put into practice. I know. And your case looks to be pretty involved. 🫶

@jessie1990 Totally agree. One problem just creates another. She had an addictive personality to begin with. I learned later she had started smoking weed at a very early age.
