@chebo1954 hi I am from Scotland I can't just ask for different doctors, and waiting lists are very long, my own doctor said yesterday to make appointment with her to go over it all ,as only had 10 minutes appointment and that was for pneumonia.

@blisske your husband had 5.0cm ascending thoracic what year and it dissected in 2007..so how many years did he go untreated before disecction? thank u. concerned since my aortic root measures 4.9 cm and cardio surgeon said to be checked again in 12 mos.

@flaxxy703
Personally, checking every 12 months at that size is inadequate. I’d push for every 6 months. Best of luck to you.

My aortic arch aneurysm was 4 when it was discovered, by accident as so many are. 9 months later it ended up being an emergency aortic dissection at 4.5. I was waiting for my next appointment to see if there was any changes when it dissected. I had a terrific surgeon at Mayo and I had a great recovery. I was patched in 3 places. I am very lucky.

Best Wishes -

@komara I started thinking you were in the UK when you said you had lost 2 stones of weight, I understand the health system runs differently there and you have to wait long to be seen and referred but I imagine there are ways and exceptions to be seen urgently by a cardiologist and/or surgeon, they are not just going to let you go through this completely untreated and make you wait. Are there any advocacy services that can help you?

@komara Any sort of invasive surgery like repairing your aneurysm will be very physically stressful so please make every effort to strengthen your body over the coming monts in anticipation of surgery. Start with the little things... do it slowly and steadily and hopefully you will begin feeling a little stronger but start this effort immediately as that aneurysm is not going to get any smaller...

@komara I certainly believe it is up to you to call and make an appointment. I doubt my cardiologist make’s appointments a year in advance. I would think with your aneurysm at 5.8 you should be talking to a thoracic surgeon!! The surgeon can order a gated CT! Call a surgeon!

Does anyone know if the new TAMBE minimally invasive procedure that is a new cardiac procedure can be used for an aneurysm of the ascending aorta .

Your aneurysm is approaching a “hinge” point of significantly higher risk for adverse events (6.0) and has already passed the point at which surgery is recommended (5.5). And that’s if you don’t have any genetic predispositions.
Please consider consulting with an experienced expert in thoracic aneurysm repair. Mayo in Minnesota, Florida or Arizona, Cleveland Clinic, MassGeneral or many others in Ca, Texas, Alabama, NY- they’re everywhere! Please don’t accept an appt in a year.
