Has anybody found relief for cramping of feet and legs?
I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, idiopathic, about 2 1/2 years ago. I am 81 years old and have been,walking,exercising in a pool,doing weight training and doing alot of exercises recommended for neuropathy such as balance and feet movements. I have tingling sensations in feet ,calves and beginning in hands. Some decreased sensation in my legs. Sock syndrome feeling in my feet. No real pain. For awhile my feet and legs were cramping ,at night, no major issue.Would use therawork,magnesium cream,heat. All successful. Recently the cramping has increased in intensity and frequencies to include daytime as well as at night.I noticed my feet and legs were cold. Using a heating pad,or foot bath worked temporarily. Now it has become a daily and nighttime issue. My sleep is erratic. The pain more intense.
I would appreciate any suggestions even from medications. I did think about buying feet warmers . If anyone has had success with such please advise. Thanking you all for reading and hoping to get some suggestions!

@jamessaxo
thank you for sharing your comments James. My condolences on the loss of your daughter.
I shall have my vit D level checked,
although I work out in the sun quite a bit here in CA. Thank you once again.
For your neuropathy, try this, it takes about 2 months before you notice a difference. I Take 2 Vitamin B12 daily and also a supplement called nerve , You can get these at Amazon. Also from Amazon, I bought a foot tens unit
Called.Creliver It has 2 black foot
pads with red light on them. This unit also has 2 pads which you can place on your back apart. Maybe 3 inches and adjust to that is suitable for you. So don't hurt my wife, does this and has helped her back quite a bit?
This all will take time about 2 months before. I notice the difference but I sleep better at night now. Good luck.
Also I cut way back on carbs, mostly protein and vegetables.

Forgot to add " elderly skin has no oil (cholesterol) so little vitamin D is made."
Get measured.

Thank you for all your support and information. I truly appreciate your concern & timing it takes to answer this matter, I also have deep sympathy for what you went through & happy to hear you were able to receive help from this Dr. Fogelson. I will indeed see if any of this works for me insurance being of the highest priority unfortunately but I don’t have the resources or people to assist me with anything or go anywhere with me.
I am fortunate enough to have a doctor or group of doctors who would send in my information or answer questions about my medical history so for this I am grateful & appreciate them. As I said I think that the doctors in Barnes Jewish were sent all my information but offered no way to help for my medical issues. I will try all the way you’ve given me to contact this Dr. and his office and to tell him he was highly recommended to me by one of his patients. Thank you very much and I wish you continued success with your journey in this process. Thank you & good luck. Phyllis

1 Reaction@pjulien63 Phyllis, if you needed someone to take you to appointments within Mayo, the Concierge might be able to arrange for a volunteer to help. You’d have to be able to get there first. Where would you travel from if you could go to Mayo? There also may be lodging options other than hotels. If you call the Concierge you can inquire. Insurance is probably the biggest issue because spine surgery is very expensive and I can’t even guess what a scoliosis surgery would be. You can also call your health insurance and ask if they cover Mayo. I’m glad your local doctor wants to help and I hope you can figure something out. This a lot to have to go through alone and if you do have surgery, it would be a long recovery. You may want to look at some of the conversations in the Spine Group about scoliosis surgeries.
Thanks for your kind words. I am doing fine and have not have any more issues since my spine surgery, and it was such a good thing in my life, I wanted to help other patients as best I can.
I'm 84. I have found liquid quinine I buy on Amazon helps stop the cramps and yes, drinking lots of water makes a big difference!
