@mercellort- Evidently we're both right. Mag Oxide is an osmatic laxative relieving constipation and mag citrate can also. When my husband was prescribed mag oxide for low magnesium it caused explosive diarrhea so he takes mag glycinate which is more absorbable and has no laxative effect on him.

The only antibiotic I've ever taken that killed off good gut bacteria is one called Ceftin. It didn't cause constiation, but had the opposite effect. A pharmacist friend suggested at the time to eat PLAIN yogurt and not the stuff with the fruit in it. I suppose one could add fresh fruit, but not the kind with added sugar. Added sugar defeats the effectiveness of the yogurt. I suppose one could take probiotics too, Plain yogurt is all you need.
In case you haven't already tried it, Miralax daily works for me. I've used it for 9-10 years. (There are generics available, so keep that in mind when it starts adding up). I occasionally have to skip a dose if my stool gets too lose, but that's rare.
I take Trulance (prescription) daily and Miralax at night and one VSL3 probiotic daily..try not to eat fried foods or much dairy.. 2 plant based Vanilla Ensures daily and one Thomas multigrain English muffin (8 gr fiber) with plant butter.. I avoid sucralose if at all possible..drink as much water as you can stand.. I tried Amtiza and Linzess and neither one worked.. the Trulance has really helped ..I hope you get relief!!

Magnesium Citrate is the one doctors have told me to take. That is the one the makes looser stools.

I agree! I take 3 tipes of magnesium: Citrate, glicinate and malate. Definetely citrate for constipation.

Since it's too late to edit, I would add that for me eating plain yogurt daily doesn't have a noticeable effect on my regularity.

I take magnesium citrate capsules occasionally for the relief of constipation. My suggestion is to start with the recommended dose.

1 ReactionIf a stool is simply not moving at all, what is the best safest way to get results?
@michaelparenti I've had pretty good results with senna leaf tea. If that doesn't work PEG will definitely do the trick for me
