Prolia treatment for osteoporosis: What is your experience?

Posted by Veruska @veriska, Mar 7, 2017

I received the results from my bone test and they have recommended I start Prolia. I have read the side effects and I am concerned. Has anyone use this drug and if so what side effects have you experienced. Thank you

@oneof6 Glad you stopped it I,ve been advocating this for along time.Along with calcium make sure you take magnesium and VitD3 they complement each other.exercise is good for the bones ,lifting weights
just small ones Hope this helps.I have Osteopenia for 7-8 yrs now but have been
following this routine .

@oneof6 Osteopenia that I have is a precursor to Osteoporosis so Im trying to avoid osteoporosis with what I suggested that I take.If this is any comfort my girlfriend has osteoporosis she had a shot ,bad reaction so she started the wt ,s exercising and after 5+ yrs she still isn't any worse in fact she never complains anymore .She also swims when she can its winter there so I don't think she swims but does the rest including the mag,cal Vit D3 .So just be careful and good luck it will take time for your body to heal itself.I fractured my back in 05 but last xray showed its more stable today .then before

I cannot take regular calcium supplements due to stomach issues but am going to try Algaecal which is a plant based calcium that supposedly helps bone density. I will see how I tolerate this and post my results!! I exercise a lot, do yoga twice a week and cardio on an elliptical machine as well as walk a lot and weights as well. I just need to up my calcium intake! Really don’t want to take any more Prolia!!

I have been taking D3 2000 mg daily and the Algaecal has magnesium in it as well as some other minerals. I, like you, have been diagnosed with osteopenia.

@lioness; Dr. Lani Simpson who wrote the book about bone strength recommends, believe it or not, sitting in the sun for about 15 minutes a day to get natural Vit. D. Of course if you live in a cold climate that may be difficult.

@tikigod18 that is and was true but now we can get radiation then we have to apply sunscreen now and this defeats the purpose

Nope. Dr. Simpson says 15 minutes in the sun is NOT harmful. No sunscreen she says. IDK, it makes me feel better to have a little sun! Obviously if you have had skin cancer before, you need to use your own judgment!
