Post Mastectomy Must Haves?
I am having a double mastectomy on August 25th. Trying to figure out what I should buy for post surgery recovery. (clothes, pillows, creams etc) What are/were your post-mastectomy "must haves" that you found helpful? Thank you!

4 Reactions@briarrose Hi, I just read your comment and it has been very helpful. I’m due to have a bilateral flat mastectomy on 12 May and want to find out as much as I can. They want to send me home the same day. I have asked twice if I could please stay just one night, but they don’t think this is necessary. Everyone I tell is very surprised that I’m leaving the same day.
I’d like to order some things from Amazon to have ready. I’m currently in an assisted living facility, but I do not have nursing assistance.
Would it be possible to message you in some way?

1 Reaction@okisharon I had a lumpectomy but the mastectomy pillow on Amazon was very helpful. Used it in the car on the way home for support. It has cold packs you can slip in pockets. I even slept with it on one side resting my arm on the pillow. Big help.

Stay strong! Be patient. You will get through this!
The pillow was helpful. The cushion for the car seat belt is even more necessary. The shirts with inside pockets are nice for when you go out, you can put the pumps in the pockets and people don't see them and it takes the weight off them when they fill up. Nonsugar crackers were essential, too, for me as my belly kept getting upset. Good luck. I am still struggling after 7 weeks with the mastectomies....right is okay but left had an infection and hurts a lot. Keep smiling......

My bilateral on may 6th
What are your must haves and dos and don't. How do you handle your woman hood without breasts. Is it necessary to have hormone treatment after. Im 72!
@gailmarienewton thank you
I had a single masectomy and went home the same day.
Having button or zippered shirts are very helpful.
Have most used kitchen items at lower level so you don't have to reach up.
Make some meals ahead of time and freeze some.
Paper plates.
Wet wipes are nice till allowed to shower.
Night gowns that zip up.
I bought hoodies from Amazon that had inside pockets for drains.
Some people make a sash belt that they can hang drains from.
I propped up pillows in bed to sleep.
Thinking of you and wishing a good recovery.
Sending hugs.
@okisharon yes, you can private message me.
