Nuclear Stress Test-Terrified

Posted by myg68 @myg68, 6 days ago

Hi
I am scheduled for a nuclear stress test next month after finding out I have a high CAC Score.
Has anyone had a nuclear stress test? If so, please explain the process.
I’m mostly freaked out about the medicine that is injected to stress your heart.
I seriously do not want to do this test, but I know I need to, to find out if I have any blockage(s).
Please share…
Thank you

Wow you are really getting tested!

I don't think you could do anymore tests you have had all types.

Did you ever have a Holter monitor test to see how your heart's electrical system is working? An ECG is usually only a minute or so and does not give a good history of what your heart electrical system is working just a real time at that moment.

Yes, I’ve worn a Holter monitor several times. I’ve also had several ECG’s.
Thank you for your input.

Hey I was exactly the same, terrified! Not knowing what to expect etc..
You just get a canula put in n have to wait half hour then have the stuff injected and it only lasts two minutes, the test..then wait another half hour n they see the difference, I won’t lie. It’s not a nice feeling having your heart put under stress but just breathe through it n you’ll be fine, honestly it’s not bad xx good luck 🤞

I think the worst about this is the unknown and not knowing what to expect.

You have gotten some personal experience with what you will feel when having this test done. For those, inlcuding me, I had no idea what to expect and the feelings were strange and stressful because of that.

Now you can know what to expect and feel. You heart will feel like you are doing a run/walk stress test but you will be sitting. It is not long and over quickly and your medical providers are right there.

I have had probably 3-4 stress test since then but on treadmill doing a pulmonary stress test. That is a test that you wear a mask in addition to all those wires to test your cardiovascular system by anaylsing your breathing.

Hi @myg68. I hope you are getting a bit more comfortable as others chime in about their experiences. If you are comfortable, would you share a bit more about your upcoming nuclear stress test that may help others know how they can support you? I hope my questions don’t feel like rapid fire.

* I totally may have missed this, but why are you not getting the physical treadmill test?
* What is your cardiologist specifically wanting to learn from you doing this test?
* What did you find out from your hematologist, did they have recommendations or concerns?
* When are you scheduled?
* What is your biggest concern at this point?
