not being informed of chronic aortic dissection

Hello all! I had a ruptured AAA in Oct of 2022. Somewhere between then and my scans in 2023 I apparently got a chronic aortic dissection. The thing is, until I went to the ER with pains a month ago I wasn’t aware I had one. They saw the dissection and life flighted me to another hospital and almost did an emergency open heart before they figured out it was chronic. The life flighted alone was 30K and I don’t have insurance.:( My doctor (Surgeon) had looked at the scans and right in front of me and told all was well and see me in a year. I feel like he should’ve informed me then so I could take precautionary measures, as this can be life threatening. What do you all think? Has this happened to anyone else?

I've never heard of a chronic aortic dissection. Could someone please explain this?

Chronic aortic dissection refers to a condition where a tear in the aorta's inner layer has persisted for more than 30 days. It typically occurs after the acute phase and can be managed with medical therapy if the patient is stable, but it still poses significant health risks.

By AAA, do you mean abdominal aortic aneurysm or ascending aortic aneurysm? I ask because of the mention of open heart surgery. Ascending aortic aneurysms aren't typically abbreviated that way. The root, ascending and descending aortic aneurysms are referred to as thoracic aneurysms TAA. A dissected descending aneurysm can continue into the abdomen in some cause. Regardless, it seems they should be doing something about this other than watch and wait.

sasanch10;......unfortunately GP's do not seem to be well versed in the more intricate details of aneurysms. Or was your doc a heart specialist?? My doc is an internal medicine MD but found an aneurysm with a stethoscope. He sent me to the hospital for an ultrasound which confirmed his finding. That's it. A month later a followup appt. and when I asked, he could not find the numbers but thought he remembered a dual AAA one at 4.2 and a root at 4.5cm. By that time I had read up on this site & my condition and asked many questions which he was not prepared to answer. Six months went by and he sent me to the hospital again for another ultrasound, The tech asked if I was allergic to iodine and proceeded to hook me up to a CT Scan with contrast. No explanation why the change. So, I guess we need to be more insistent for explanations or find new doctors who will explain things better. I still do not know for sure what the growth rate or current numbers are.
