When to accept permanent long covid?
Had Long Covid for 11 months. Is there still a chance it could go away or is it time to accept as permanent. Have heard give it anywhere from 1 to 2 years. Any feedback on that?

I’m sorry for all the suffering going on with long covid, it’s just frightening to hear how many people are still so very sick from this pandemic virus. Sadly, we had to learn very slowly as to what we are dealing with, the stories are vast and symptom vary but many are similar. I had a very bad opinion about the doctors who didn’t know what to do or simply tried to make me feel that it’s all in my head and I should seek help from a psychiatrist. I too have long covid and it primarily affected my heart, also had many tests to no avail, I live with it now and sometimes it’s better but there are relapses. I also had to learn how to survive with cancer at the same time so it’s a lot to deal with. I can’t prevent the cancer from recurring, no one can no matter how hard they try but I can control covid by simply wearing masks in public places, I don’t want another covid infection because it leaves you with so many horrible symptoms, what worries me is that people have long covid and are still suffering after covid but they still go outside without a mask leading to multiple infections…most complaints are that masks feel uncomfortable and annoying, I agree with that but the alternative is getting infected again and more long covid to deal with, which one would you prefer??
I just wanted to add that I have met many people who have never had a vaccine because they weren’t comfortable with it but they chose to wear masks instead, to date none have ever had a covid infection.
Thanks for your reply. So we'll stated. So sorry what you are going through. Very best wishes and best of luck for you.
You might want to discuss taking modafinil (Provigil) with your medical provider. My daughter is on a dose lower than the smallest tablet made, so be willing to experiment with a small dosage if a more standard dose isn't tolerated. I found I had too many uncomfortable side effects of jitteriness, hyper alertness, etc. , so it didn't help me even at a very low dose. You might want to start with a dose as low as 25 mg/day, but by all means do this under the supervision of your medical provider.
I actually started a new subject about this approach:
https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/im-the-one-who-knocks-lets-talk-amphetamines/
I actually did send a message to my PA about that drug, in particular, plus mentioned the ADHD CNS stimulants. I have to wait a month to physically visit my PCP since these are all controlled substances, so they have to tread a bit carefully.
That's interesting and valuable information you've provided here; I suspect I'll prove to be "sensitive" to its effects (despite, surprisingly, not responding to nicotine gum much at all when I tried that), too.
"Hyper alertness", LOL, that makes me feel jealous...
Okay thank you for getting back to me.
My apologies if this isn't the right thread to post this on. Let me know if it is better suited somewhere else.
After so many tests that come back mostly normal, I am getting a little frustrated. All said and done, most of the docs I've seen have chalked the fatigue, brain fog and tremors up to LC/Post-COVID stuff. It does seem like most docs, around here at least, don't know exactly what to do and aim to just treat/manage the symptoms as best they can since a definitive cause can't be found. My Neuro even prescribed me Armodafinil for the brain fog and it worked great for me but the insomnia "rebound" was a real bugger so my using those may be limited. Having one decent day of mostly clear though was nice but not sure it's worth all that.
My big question at this point is this, has anyone tried or heard about results with the Ultimate Spike Detox supplements? It's probably just "snake oil" but at this point I am at least open to considering it.
are you aware of any scientific research studies being done on this?
Unfortunately, at this point there isn't much that can be done for Long-COVID. And with that , for the hundreds of thousands or millions who suffer with it, it is a serious problem. Don't give up hope. Stay within the limits of the energy you have. I'm hoping and wishing for each and every one of us that there will be a breakthrough, and soon. Right now, it's not here yet. And I hope each and every one can find a compassionate medical provider.
I was just wondering about all the stories you hear about long covid and whether it will ever go away… to date we still have covid infecting hundreds of thousands but no one is reporting this information anymore so most people think that it’s over now. This virus has no cure that we know of so they keep putting out vaccines for the never ending variants that crop up… could it be that long covid isn’t curable until they find one vaccine that makes you immune to every variant that comes out. This is just a theory and I’m not saying it’s the answer to this question but somehow it seems plausible because we’re fighting symptoms totally new to our bodies and the cause is a virus we can’t get rid of…I’m curious about what others think of this idea.
