Started Repatha - Side Effects
I had terrible side effects with statins (any statin, any dosage). For about 30 years my doctors have pushed statins and
I have resisted. Finally I agreed to Repatha. The first week I had zero side effects. With my second dose, 2 weeks in, i woke up and my joints and muscles hurt a LOT.
1. Does this side effect go away?
2. What do you know about the recent information that the Repatha trials underreporting deaths from cardiac events while taking Repatha.

There is an obsession with “numbers.” I hate that word. EVERYTHING was LDL. Then the number considering LDL HDL and triglycerides. Then LPa. Then the “ratio” considering LDL/LPa. Sometimes I think we are all guinea pigs. They tell us to take a drug then tell us it’s bad and to stop. Meanwhile, the side effects cause loss of enjoyment of life. Most of the Repatha side effects are now gone after MONTHS. I am feeling strong again and doing my activities, EXCEPT, Repatha caused me extreme low back pain that remains. It makes me wonder if it caused permanent damage to those nerves. Right now I’m just going with weight, exercise, diet, sleep. My “numbers” have improved. My internist said “you are good.”
I fired my cardiologist who literally said,” if you don’t take statins or Repatha I have nothing for you.” That so offended me. I said, “ but, you are my cardiologist and I can’t take those drugs,”. He said,” that’s all I have for you.”
I went back and read some of the original research about aspirin and there are reports from the beginning that some people get heartburn from it. we are those people!
I researched that supplement and the FDA has approved it to lower LDL. However the research indicates that effective dose is 1300-2000mg per day. Most supplements are 90mg tablets.
Mine are soft gels. 2 are 1,000 mg. (500 mg each). I’ve been taking two a day to start to be sure that I wouldn’t have any side effects. If I went up to three I’d be right in that pocket.
I thought it had lowered my LPa, but now I have noticed that my LDL also lowered which you had said that it is because my LDL went down that my LPa went down. I’m fine with that. It just seems to be working along with my liver style changes
I posted at another post as well. This post seems more relevant.
I had a widowmaker heart attack back in Dec '23. I now have chf. My docs started me on Repatha in April '24. I am having alot of issues. I just didn't think to look at Repatha as a culprit. Then I stumbled on to these columns. I am stunned! I have always been an on the go, active person. Not anymore. I am having trouble with breathing, muscle and joint pain, exhaustion, sleep all the time. my rls is getting worse, it's hard to walk up stairs, I am developing nuerology in my feet, I am getting sick alot like flues and colds and covid. I had my lungs tested and passed with flying colors. Had an echocardiogram done and altho it listed mild diffuse hypokinesis, my doc says it is not related to my issues. I have been sent to my GP. Going to check with docs to see if I can switch to another drug. My cholesterol is extremely high, so guess I have to do something. So glad to find ya'll so I don't feel crazy!
I’m just curious, in the event you cannot continue Repatha, are you eating fresh organic food, exercising the best you can (off ofRepatga you will begin to be able to exercise again), is your weight normal, getting good sleep? I was told fresh clean organic food, maintain a healthy weight, exercise (start at 2,000 steps a day and work up, I am usually now at 8,000-14,000 a day), sleep. Do you drink sodas? There is a lot you can do.
Statins I could not take, they made my joints and muscles ache. Started Repatha and no side effects as of yet. Been taking 2 injections a month now for about 4 months. I usually have side effects from everything it seems but so far I’m good to go.
Have two heart stents
I hope it continues to work for you.
