Reversal of a fundoplication
I had a hernia and the fundoplication done in February as post this my chest is on fire. Going back to see the surgeon who did it on Tuesday. Has anybody had the same experience? If this guy does not have a answer heading for Mayo.
Thanks
Dennis

I thought about that
Originally done at froedtert and when they found out they didn't wnt to del with me anymore. Said you couldn't redo.
I have the same problem. Did you have the reversal surgery? I am searching for a doctor to do this.
I had my nissian in 2000. It was a tough surgery. As everyone else, I can't burp or throwup to this day. I've asked to have it reversed, but been told I've had it too long. For years I couldn't sleep due to excessive gas build up at night. Nothing helped! I'd sleep for a couple of hours and then be in total discomfort! I also have had trouble with food getting stuck! I still take medicine for acid reflux, not sure if I need it or not, but it's difficult to get off the meds. The that was the whole reason for the surgery in the begining. After all these years, I have learned to manage my situation, but it's been difficult. To this day, I do not like the surgeon who did this to me, yes did this to me. I asked him prior to the operation, are there any side effects, his answer" Only a little gas." I pray and try not to hate him! His name it Trotta! Good luck everyone and keep praying.
I had tif surgery in July. I was good for 4 months then everything changed. I told my surgeon I was having tightness in the middle of my chest and still couldn’t eat garlic, onion, spicy food. Also now can’t even drink decaf coffee or tea. Back pain. He told me to go to the heart doctor. He finally did a scope and acid test and said everything is fine. He actually got mad and rude when I told him I thought the procedure was too tight. Now I’m going to my GI doctor to do a dialation. Does anyone know a surgeon that can do a reversal?
Yes mrclause, not much has changed in 20 years, which was when I had my nissian. The surgeons, not all of them, but most, think their Gods and you better not trust how you feel, just accept that everything is just great! I still have mine and as I stated prior, my doctor, not the surgeon, says it's been too long. That was 10 years ago. Says they'll make it worse. I won't return the surgeon. I just try to give him all the advertisement possible about my experience. Which wasn't good!
I want to thank everyone for sharing their stories about that surgery. A friend of mine had it years ago and she’s OK, thank goodness. I’m having some symptoms that I think might be a hiatal hernia, and I was wondering if that would be a solution, but after reading everyone’s experiences, I’m not going to have that! It’s terrible to say that I don’t trust doctors anymore, but I don’t. You just never know what you’re going to get. I’m sorry for everyone who is experiencing problems. That sounds awful. Thank you again.
My hernia part of the surgery worked and I would definitely do it again.
Why your suggesting that?
I had Nissen fundiplication do to a hiatal hernia 3 years ago. I wish I had never had it done. I started having trouble within 5 days of having the procedure
I’ve been miserable ever since. I’ve got constant bloating, excessive gas, unable to burp. Eating smaller meals doesn’t do anything. You name it. Had dilation. No relief. Different medications. No relief. I felt better before the surgery by a long shot.
I’ll be discussing with my gastroenterologist about having the procedure reversed or some form of revision done.
