Any experience with Nexletol or Nexlezet?

Posted by poppy55 @poppy55, Jan 19 8:08am

I’ve had bad side effects with rosuvastatin, atorvastatin, and especially praluent. My doctor is now recommending Nexletol. Has anyone had similar intolerance with statins that has tried Nexletol or Nexlezet?

Severe anemia, muscle pain, insomnia about 9 months into treatment. Really dropped my LDLs but made life unbearable.

I have a similar intolerance of stations and zetia. I'm on Praulent and we added nexletol. It took about 8 months and then the side effects started. Joint pain, tenden pain, sudden knee pain, etc. Stopped couple of weeks ago and I'm gradually getting better. FYI. It seemed to help my LDL get below 100, but it's not worth it.

Thanks for posting. I’m terrified to start taking Nexletol after my experiences. I can keep my LDL under 100 with just diet but my cardiologist wants it to be 70 or lower.

My endocrinologist wanted the same for me. I don’t have heart disease but family history is significant. I’m 74 years old and I was an athlete. I still am very active, except during this bout with side effects. I don’t smoke or drink. I think I’m going to rely on healthy habits. This may be a quality over quantity decision. Who knows?

Oh, I definitely understand your fear. Has your cardiologist told you why a target of 70 instead of 100? It may be worth another discussion understand why. Also, ask them how this drug works differently than other cholesterol drugs and if there’s a way to tip your toe in the water a bit to try it. I tried it some time ago and quit after 4 days. I tried again later and was ok taking 1/2 tablet.

I did a search and found an article with this summarized:
‘Why the focus on 70 mg/dL? "Studies have shown that when LDL falls below this number, plaques in arteries get smaller and they stabilize, which lowers the risk for heart attacks and stroke," says Dr. Cannon.’

Thanks for pointing me to that article. I had not seen that.

I do know how nexletol works differently than statins and praluent. My experience with praluent was the worst, and it took 10 weeks to recover. Praluent can stay in your system for 100 days. Nexletol has a much shorter half life. I am going to give it a go. It’s been so nice not having side effects that I wanted to experience it for a while before diving back in. In fact I just started today.

Thanks again for your reply, very helpful.

I haven’t tried Praluent, but had problems with Repatha. How are you planning to check how Bempodoic acid is working and/or causing any problems? Inquiring minds want to know. Would you come back and report?😀

Definitely! Hopefully I will be OK and then ace my lipid profile when it’s due in a couple of months. I will also continue with my strict diet. Thanks for the hug!

Well now I am super curious…..
* exactly what is your strict diet? I eat grains, veggies, mostly berries for fruit, coffee, beans/legumes, olive oil, nuts….
* what type of lipid testing do you get? Apo-B and Apo-A have been helpful for my doctors to know how to target treatment.

My diet is like yours but with fish once a week. No alcohol. With lots of exercise. High intensity intervals, spin classes, resistance training, walking.

My tests measure HDL, LDL, Triglycerides, VLDL, Cholesterol to HDL ratio. Attached image shows test from February when I was taking 5mg of rosuvastatin every other day. Stopped meds right after the test due to side effects.

I’m 70 years old.
