It is a mixer that the doctor feels I need through Mayo. Drug insurance doesn't cover. .033% -IPRA 0.02%-DIPH 0.033% KIT. Mixed in pharmacy for me at the direction of your prescriber. It comes in little kits. I am suppose to take one spray daily when there no no flair ups. I hate taking any drug. So I only take it as needed. It really changed my life. I do know someone that it hasn't.

Hello gents...

I came across this topic last night. I was planning to inquire here long time ago, but as reading your experiences it seems there is no help to me either.

I have problem with excessive saliva/mucus/phlegm. I don't even know what it is, it is just in my throat, don't know where is coming from, but is constant. When first told to the doctor I was prescribed Omeprazole, that didn't change anything except made me anxious and sick, then other doctor lower the dosage and prescribed me Prevacid/Lansoprazole and he sent me for lots of tests(on my initiative), allergies, blood test, barium swallow and nothing has been found except mild reflux. Advice was to continue taking Prevacid, it will take months to help me.

Well I've taken Prevacid for at least three months and I haven't notice single change. I also got Bactroban cream to stick littlebit in my nose for 6 weeks at least and no change either.
After reading and reading I came across Candida and I decided to give it a shot. I did try before changing my diet, removing sugar and carbs from my diet for a little while, no change. I drank baking soda, no change, I drank apple cider vinegar no change, I 've taken bunch of different things no change. Month ago I decided to drink only spring water(doesn't contain flouride) as they add extra flouride here in Canada, I thought maybe is that. But after a week I didn't notice any difference.

Important to mention Prevacid helped me little bit with the scalp itch/inflammation that I had for years, now it is slightly less, but still here.
I mention Candida, last summer I decided to get Candigone and try that, diet is super hard and pills are disgusting but I manage to eliminate carbs for I think 9 days and after that I felt good for few months, until I started eating sugar and drinking beer like before so now it's same again. I don't think I eat or drink more than an average person, more over, I drink few bottles of beer Friday and Saturday evening and sweets I would eat only on the weekend, so nothing too crazy. I don't drink any pop or anything than water for years.

I am a runner and I used to run half marathons. Last year in September I manage to pull 15km on trails in a race. After that my fitness is just going down, becauser of that excessive saliva. When I go out for a run I would just spit and spit, only after a 45min or 50 I would manage to pull majority of saliva and be able to feel really good, but that is usually only temporary and my runs became kind of miserable. Every run basically is a fight with saliva, it is affecting my breathing and I cannot get enough air to my lungs as it just cannot be swallowed properly.
Other thing that bother's me is talking, I am having inability to talk and think clearly. Saliva gets stuck on voice box and my voice is miserable, then when trying to say what I think it gets really hard, like a brain fog or something.

I am still reading and reading and I came nowhere, I went to the doctor other day to get me referral for specialist, so I am waiting for that, but knowing healthcare here it may take months to see one.
On the other end, what I figured that gives me great relief is acid food. Lemons/lime and spicy food. Usually stomach feels so good and strong after that is incredible. My stomach feels strong and I am able to actually clear my throat, but that is again only temporary. Chiropractor also gave me temporary relief so I also think that it may be connected to my posture and nerves pinching, but that is just a thought.

I mention to the doctor almost each time that if I have high acidity or mild reflux why only acid and spicy food give me instant relief, is there something to test me on that or give me something to increase. His answer was just to continue taking Prevacid. After a while I ditched it, as there is no change anyway.

I am lately thinking that I really have low stomach acid and my stomach is just not capable to make it anymore, something like diabetes, when your body is just unable to produce insulin. And then when I eat spicy or acid it just kicks back in.
I did also try Betaine HCL and I am not sure if I didn't take maybe enough or is not that either, but I haven't notice too much difference except there is maybe slightly more saliva and it get easier to clear(hard to describe). I am currently taking Apple cider vinegar pills and digestive enzymes and I might go back to Betaine HCL as my last resort before I get to see specialist.
I also believe that it may be H pylori, Candida or really low acidity. But science and doctors haven't gone that far I ran out of my options except just going on carnivore diet. That could potentially kill every bad bacteria inside of me, but damn, that is hardcore and I don't think I am capable of that.
I am afraid that even H pylori bacteria treatment wouldn't be a benefit to me, as you get three antibiotics and anti acid. That would kill good and bad in me, with chance to be good or worse 50/50.

Sorry for the long post, but I hope that we all find a damn cure for this.

Please be advised that this will NOT cure your excessive mucus, but it can help. At least it did for me. When I took my first two softgels, I was running around the house (at age 76) thanking God as I could breath better. I sent some to a friend who was battling lung cancer with medical marijuana. Adding this to his regiment, he is now in remission. I think it boosts one's immune system to an unbelievable level. It is called black cumin seed softgets. For my friend, we got his from Great Britain at the online TheBlessedSeed.com They also have the history of black cumin seed oi. His was had from TheBlessedSeed.com as they have the strongest oil. (The hotter the country, the stronger the black cumin seed oil.) This is where I get my softgels. https://www.herbalsecrets.com/products/herbal-secrets-100-pure-black-cumin-seed-oil-1000-mg-100-softgels
This is from where my friend got his strong strength black cumin seed oil: https://theblessedseed.com/shop/?gclid=CjwKCAiA2fjjBRAjEiwAuewS_Y7AwFHzlPaqzMKa7V-NdxvxRS1byisXtym9eDW8ARTYHiZEMnIsyxoCSzYQAvD_BwE
Remember, it does NOT CURE, but it helps, at least it did me to where I noticed a marked improvement.

Hi, I did try and still taking occasionally Black seed oil (Nigella Sativa) and no change regarding mucus/saliva. I've been taking it for a full year.
However, I wasn't sick for whole period. I used to catch cold as soon as I see person with cold kilometer away, but after taking Black seed oil, that person with cold can basically cough at me and I'll be fine. It helped me to strengthen my immune system that is for sure.

Another funny thing is what I notice that if I don't take Black seed oil for a longer period and take a spoon of it, I would get sore throat for few days, then usually get accompanied with cold. It happened twice or three times, which means that I basically have (cold) bacteria living in my throat that gets aggravated with Black seed oil.

I've been having the same issue, for a few years actually, It just leads to me having to cough it up but it's a continuous issue, if I go a while without coughing some up it shows in my voice, then I end up coughing violently

Well, here is the update. I went back to Betaine HCL and it is a great improvement. I still have symptoms but now I can breathe again and I don't produce as much saliva as before. I take only one with meal, so far three a day.

Hello, your symptoms sound like a rare condition that is curable though. It is definitely misdiagnosed in most patients. It is called Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak (CSF) - medical condition caused by a small tear or hole in the outer membrane that contains the fluid surrounding the spinal cord and brain. In many cases it heals on its own with lots of bed rest and high fluids intake. Often it is necessary blood patching or surgical sealant - fibrin glue to be applied. Neurosugery may help in more complicated CSF cases.

Ask your doctor to check you for Cerebrospinal fluid leak. This is a rare condition and could be the reason for your excessive mucus production. Another one is vasomotor rhinitis.

@hishamhussain @aman Staff infections can cause sinus infections, and I have had similar trouble. A lot of people carry staph in their noses unknowingly. I had some instances of excess phlegm in my lungs that I can feel, but little other symptoms except the post nasal drip. I have asthma. No fever or cough. Sometimes phlegm is caused by some type of low grade infection, and I have found that to be true in my case. I've had some reoccurring chest infections that seemed to start in my sinuses. I use a saline rinse bottle. I take generic Mucinex to thin the mucous so it's easier to expel. I had spine surgery at Mayo 2 years ago. Before surgery, they had me treat my nose by putting a pea sized bead of Mupirocin (generic for Bactroban) ointment in the nostrils twice a day for about 10 days to kill any staph infections. I had some ointment left and I tried it when I had breathing issues with excess phlegm, and it worked. After treating for about 3 days, breathing would be normal again because I wasn't labored with phlegm. I'm better at recognizing this earlier now, but it's been enough to raise my resting heart rate over 100 beats per minute and the first time that happened, I went to the emergency room. They diagnosed bronchitis and put me on oral antibiotics which cured it, but it happens periodically. My doctor wrote prescriptions for Mupirocin so I have it on hand now and can treat my sinuses as soon as it starts. I do have allergies and do allergy shots and antihistamines, and I have to avoid foods that cause allergies and phlegm (like milk). You might want to consider seeing an ENT to see if they can culture what's in your sinus and throat. You can also do physical therapy or use a massager to loosen phlegm. Walking would help if you feel up to it. I also have a nebulizer which helps the asthma rescue medication get deeper into the lungs to clear them. I remember reading an article once about this kind of chest infection which is why I tried the antibiotic ointment. I hope these suggestions help and gives you something to ask your doctor about.

Hi All, I have had persistent mucus in my throat with no cough. this has come with dizziness and shortness of breath. I am a female in my late 20s and i have seen every specialist out there and had every test out there. i spend about 20 minutes every morning hacking up thick mucuos. the reference to staph interests me becuase about two months ago my sputum sample was sent to teh lab and staph grew. i was put on bactrum and finished that round of antibiotics but have had little change since then. sometimes the mucus is so thick i have to pull it out of my mouth becuase it gets stuck. other times i am too exhausted from trying to expel it that i give up. i did faint once too. I saw an ENT, had an endoscopy, was treated with pantoprazole, and it was not effective. I also had esophogeal manotromy, and barium swallow test. CT scan of abdominal organs, ultrasound of my lymphnodes, mri of my brain becuase i am having spotty vision. i am also experiencing episodes of severe pain in my upper torso behind my ribs. it will come on suddenly and last from 1 to 6 hours...totally random and i cannot seem to connect it with any food or other allergen. i saw an allergist who said this would not be a food allergy and she did do various blood tests. she said i had signs of mast cell activation and suggested trying nasacourt and an antihistimine. so far it has been useless.
all of this has come with extreme exhaustion. I go to work and go home straight to bed. on weekends I can sleep 17 hours straight (getting half awake to urinate) and then i wake up still tired. I was put on an inhaler for possible asthma even though the inhaler has not helped. I am winded from talking too much. I have seen every specialist other than oncology. I was not depressed or anything...although this is certainly taknig a toll on my morale.
i do find @jenniferhunter story interesting becuase i had the staph and wonder about the spine surgery....was that for this mucus problem if you dont mind me asking? I have not had spinal surgury but i have had several lumbar punctures throughout my childhood due to pseudotumor cerebri i was diagnosed with as a kid . Like i said i am only in my late 20s.

ps i appologize for spelling and grammer...my post is totally stream of conciousness. Thank you all!
