Good evening from Canada 🇨🇦
I'm not a medical professional, but it sounds like both a combination of scar tissue and hernia mesh. My lower abdomen is rather stiff and my family Dr thinks it's from all my hernia issues and they have developed scar tissue. I hope this offers you some comfort.
Hi, @ilovegiaphangura. I don't have any experience as you describe, b\however, everytime I visit ,[=my transppant team annualloy, they do check my abdomen. I've honestly never asked why they did it, though.
I would like to tag fellow members, @footballmum, @jackie421blfdgurl, @patricia30 to this conversation. Perhaps they will have some ideas and experiences to share with you.
@ilovegiaphangura, What have your transplant doctors told you about this?
Hello.Jackie here. This October will be 5 years since I got my new liver
6 mos after my surgery. I had to go back in for hernia repair..Dr. put in some layers of mesh..well about a yr ago I noticed by upper tummy getting bigger. Swollen...Dr. said muscle pulling away so why did he put in mesch.he Said physical therapy???? Anyway I wear a tight one piece elastic around my waist but makes it feel
better.but all my mri and ct of belly area my Dr. Looking for any tumors.they do see the liver looking good.but I was told looking cause I had two cancerous tumors in liver before the transplant.oh well we all deal with this differently. Some have issues some have nothing keep talk to dr. Hello Rosemary my friend. Happy almost memorial day..yea..we all made it thru another winter
Was wondering if anyone else is having problems with having a big stomach after 3 years of the transplant. Have had an ultrasound and no fluid buildup had 3 hernias repaired. Doesn’t feel soft like fat but quite firm.
Good morning Kelly. I am just a little more than 3 years post transplant - and I also have a distended abdomen. I notice it gets worse after I eat - and in fact it distends more on my right side than the left. I can almost trace the outline - of what I thought was my new liver. My entire abdomen is herniated - my incision was opened 3 times due to post-transplant complications. I believe some mesh was used on one of those subsequent surgeries to hold everything in. I have not had a separate hernia surgery. But my doctors are not concerned. They told me the bulge that I am seeing is not my liver - but rather my intestines! It doesn’t bother me, but just looks kind of lumpy. In order to protect my abdominal wall, I wear an abdominal binder whenever I exercise or do any physical work - to try to limit the stress on my abdomen. I don’t want any more surgery if I can help it. I never had a six-pack abdomen - and I certainly don’t have one now. I have come to accept my new lumpy self. I am just so grateful to be alive.
