I’m 41 years old, just diagnosed with AA at 4cm, is it safe to get pregnant?

My BP is normal level..

I’m not a doctor. I did survive a complete dissection of my ascending aorta in 2015.

When you have an ascending aortic aneurysm, even a smaller one like 4.0 cm, pregnancy brings some real risks you have to think carefully about. Pregnancy naturally increases blood volume and cardiac output, which puts a lot of extra strain on the aorta — especially later in pregnancy and during labor. Even with normal blood pressure, the mechanical stress alone can be enough to cause problems like dissection if the aorta is already weakened or stretched.

At 4.0 cm, you’re right at the edge where some doctors start to worry, but every case is unique. Other factors like connective tissue conditions, family history, and how strong your aortic wall is also matter. Some women with 4.0 cm aneurysms have made it through pregnancy safely with very close monitoring — but it’s not without risk.

If you’re considering pregnancy, you’ll want a team that knows aortic disease inside and out: a cardiologist, a high-risk OB, and regular imaging during the pregnancy. Some people even consider preventive surgery first, depending on their situation.

It’s not a flat-out no, but it’s definitely not something to jump into without a lot of careful planning. Knowing about your aorta now gives you a huge advantage — you can make decisions that protect you. Peace.
