Uveitis in children

Posted by Uvea10 @uvea10, Jul 17, 2011

Ten year old daughter diagnosed with uveitis, and Methotrexate is not keeping the inflammation down. Her rheumatologist now wants to prescribe either Cyclosporine or Humira. I'm not on board with either of these and wondering if anyone else has a child with this condition and what treatment they are currently on and how they are responding to it? Thanks!

Hi, just found this chat from googling uveitis questions. I see it's an old post but wandered if any of the natural therapies worked for the children? My son is 9 and was diagnosed with uveitis over 3 years ago, about 5 months ago the hospital decided that it was time to start him on methotrexate but so far I have refused, I did private testing and he had high levels of heavy metals, a blocked valve in intestines so have had him on a strict food plan of one ingredient foods, nothing processed at all he was on high vitamin c and a few other supplements for a couple of months, massaged his intestine area (so he now 💩 more often) I'm hoping this will detox the poisons out of him. The hospital see us once a month and the steroids he has been on are now down to 5mg per day and dropping to 2.5mg next week, I really want him off these, so this is good but the fear of a flare up is a bit of a worry. I'd love to know about any natural steps people have taken and how the results of that have gone. Good luck to all our babies with this awful autoimmune, Gem x

Hello @gemz, Welcome to Connect. This is an older discussion and I don't think there are any active members but I did a search of Connect for uveitis and found members have commented on the condition in other discussions. Here is a link to the search results that lists the comments - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/search/comments/?search=uveitis%20treatments.

I'm hoping members with some experience will respond and share their experience with pediatric uveitis. I also found this Canadian site that has some educational information on children with uveitis that might be helpful - Cassie+Friends - https://cassieandfriends.ca/uveitis/.

I know this must be really difficult for you trying to find other ways to treat your son rather than the steroids. I did find this article that mentions natural treatments that might be helpful - Natural Uveitis Remedies: Prevent & Treat Uveitis Naturally - https://www.vision-and-eye-health.com/natural-uveitis-remedies/.

Have your son's doctors offered any suggestions for natural treatments that might help along with the current treatment plan?
