Am I crazy? I hear music in my head all the time since covid.

Posted by imlizard865 @imlizard865, Mar 9, 2024

I have had covid twice. The last time was June 2023. It was very mild, like a cold. However, ever since, I hear music inside my head ALL the time, unless I am concentrating on something else. Also I have random, moderate attacks of vertigo. I haven’t shared this with my doctor, only my wife and a couple close friends. Are these hallucinations? It’s always music I know I have heard, but not always music I like. I am getting tired of it. I am certain that it started with my most recent bout of covid. Anyone?

Yes, it's called "Musical Tinnitus". I had COVID late March/early April 2023. My first symptoms were an odd rash on my right thigh and right ankle - misdiagnosed 3x; still returns and tho' it looks different, it's miserable - that with edema.

In the late Summer/early Fall of 2024, I started having tinnitus - the 'usual' kind (buzzing, whooshing, something that sounds like a flock of birds) AND musical tinnitus. My mother had it before she lost her hearing. AND lo and behold - BOOM, my hearing began to go - couldn't hear the TV or even my spouse next to me at dinner at home if his face was turned away. Finally was tested by an ENT in late 2024. Was told I had a sinus issue (those I've had; this was different) and hearing loss that was significant.

I'm NOT saying you too will lose your hearing. I read this today from the AMA. (I have a google alert set for Long COVID and at least skim all articles, read some like this bec it was from the AMA. We are all different in what we get and when and how and severity. I too HATE that it's never ever quiet "in my head" - and tho' I make light of it (referring to my different "stations") it is annoying. IF you've not had your hearing tested, do. What I've read about tinnitus is that it 'fills spaces' where hearing should be.

I know it doesn't help to know that others are going through this. I wish we could all be in studies and then help someone find help for each of the symptoms which is what the article said is pretty much all they can do now.

Oh I do. I'm working on a major project and silence would help but I can't make it stop. This is like a record that's stuck on this sound. I wonder how many more LC sufferers there are with this too.

Since severe covid Aug 2021, I feel like I have a juke box in my head! Except same song plays over and over until a new song pops in!

the first three times i had covid 19 i had nightmares that were so severe i checked myself into a shrink to make sure i wasnt losing my mind completely
nightmares about hurting loved ones et cetra, would wake up sobbing

also crippling tinnitus and anxiety
had never dealt with anxiety before but it was so bad i didnt really drive for a month and my wife had to help me kinda learn how to hobble around the block again

i havent heard music in my head but have had some pretty bogus weird violent, recurring negative thoughts that i just repeatedly remind myself are a horrible side effect of this bullshit disease

one thing that i found extremely helpful was meditation
something i always sort of turned my nose up at but learning to lean into just "in, out" and following my breath for an extended period of time helped me to seperate the crazy places my mind was going seemingly without my consent and breath itself....in . out

i love music but dont envy your position and hope you find relief
