Dilation of the ascending aorta

Posted by JDFIII @jdfiii, Mar 26 2:36pm

Has anyone visited the Mayo for an evaluation of an ascending aorta? I found out yesterday mine measures 4.2 cm in diameter.
I hope I posted this to the correct area. I am new to this.

How is shortness of breath and dizziness connected to a root aneurysm? And ascending aorta aneurysm?

Mine is 4.2 as well and I'm having another CT scan in July. You've come to the right place. Welcome, if "welcome" is the right word.

I am not a patient at Mayo but at Duke Medical Center in NC. I have an ascending aortic aneurysm which was found when I was hopsitalized for severe COVID Pneumonia in Decc 2020 I was not eligible for vaccination during that time. vacs only available to health care professionals and nursing home residents. The ascending aortic aneurysm measrued 4.7 in 2020. I have Pulmonary Fibrosis as a result of the Covid pneumonia. My Pulmonary Function test show lungs at about 70%. I use oxygen during the day when needed and sleep with oxyggen every night. Cardiothoracic surgeon and Pulmonoloigst both have advised me that I am at a high risk of Post Op Pneumonia andpossibly not being able to come off the vent after surgery. Never had high blood pressure; always very good B/P. Very small amount of calcification in aorta. I do have Mixed Connective Tissue disorder. Last Aneurysm measurement was 5.5. I had hoped to get into a trial study for EVAR but my aneurysm is more tubular shaped and I did not meet criteria for particcipation in study because aneurysm is to close to arch to allow graft to be seated per study guidelines. Sort of feel like I am between a rock and a hard place right now. Am 77 years old.

The surgeon the worked on me at Mayo in Jacksonville came from Duke. If I lived in NC, that is where I would want to go.

I have a 4.8 aneurysm at the sinus of Valsalva and 4.1 Ascending dilation. I found mine after getting a thorough physical after my brother died suddenly from an unexpected and unexplained heart issue. I've been to both Mayo and Cleveland Clinic because the sinus of Valsalva aneurysm is very rare. Both are excellent- and both are saying that I should get a repair if mine reaches 5.0. My advice is to take whatever steps are needed to get/keep blood pressure to good levels asap. Get a genetic test, And get rechecked for any growth in 9 to 12 months. Best of luck. We are very fortunate to know we have these conditions and to have excellent care options!!!

Which hospital will you choose to perform the surgery? I have a 4.7 aneurysm at the sinus of Valsalva and 4.2 Ascending dilation. I am currently seeing doctors @ Northwestern, and I would like a second opinion. I am in good shape, but I also have CAD (genetic).
