Why don’t anxiety meds work for me?
In Sept. 2024 out of nowhere I developed extreme anxiety. Went to primary care doctor and was prescribed Effexor (which I had successfully taken previously). This time it didn’t provide any help. Dr. then prescribed Lexapro (which didn’t help) and then Celexa (which didn’t help). By this time, I lost 45 pounds by not being able to eat and constant diarrhea. Dr. then told me to find another practitioner as there was nothing more she could do for me. Since then I have seen 4 PNP and none of their prescribed meds have helped. What do I do?

On the contrary. I followed their instructions to the T allowing myself to continue on with some medications when the main side effect of three different medications was anorexia. My PCP said I shouldn’t worry about the excessive weight loss and just worry about fixing the anxiety. So, as a result of listening to her, I have irreparable damage to my body. She decided not to treat me anymore as she was frustrated by my lack of success. Also, there were PNPs who wanted to put me on drugs that I had already been taken off of due to severe side effects. My current Primary Care doctor has a horrible bedside manner and ridiculed me for my anxiety. It’s not easy finding someone who will listen and not judge. I have never felt or acted like I knew best.”
Doxepin helped me wean off benzodiazepines a few years ago.
It was actually a happy accident.
Hello, good morning.
I'd like to have a clearer understanding of why panic attacks occur and what causes them.
A week ago, I started having panic attacks, which make me feel like I'm dying. I get dizzy and cry. It's horrible. I'm undergoing breathing therapy and homeopathic remedies.
What exercises do you recommend?

Rick, I have not been on the forum for a while as I feel horrible. Saw a new nurse practitioner and my choices were to try once again to restart the Effexor or try Prozac. So here I am on 10mm Prozac a day. I don’t know if it’s going to help but this new nurse said he is exhausting all options. He prescribed 25mg of hydroxyzine for sleep but it’s useless. Hope you are doing well. I miss hearing from you.

I'm very new to this site. I saw that you mentioned your doctor wanted you to restart effexor or Prozac. I have the same options and just wondered what made you chose Prozac? I'm just really wanting any advice I can get. I know you aren't a doctor or anything. But just your opinion would be good.
I chose the Prozac. I have attempted to restart the Effexor but was unsuccessful.
Hi Claudia:
I hope you are successful with Prozac. You and I are in similar situations. Have used SSRI medications for years. Now, it seems that I am resistant to these meds. A lot of it can be genetics and metabolism that often changes with age.
I really hope this new treatment works for you. I will be praying for you.

Terrible day today. Talked to provider on the phone and I switched from the Prozac back to the Effexor, plus he added Gabapentin and I can take .25 Ativan. I am resistant to all these meds too. I was taking Effexor for 25 years and then decided I didn’t need it anymore. What a mistake.
Praying for you, too.
Claudia
Try using a breathing method that works for me.

I hope things are stabilizing for you. I am thinking about you and praying for you.
