anyone else coughing up plugs of mucus with COPD

is there anyone in stage four of COPD coughing up mucus plugs? It is very tiring. I don't know if this is the last next to the last stage or if this is what happens.

I do drink a lot of water . And I do take Musinex morning and night . I have eliminated a lot of different foods from my diet . I don’t know how , but certain foods cause mucus. I don’t use any oily dressing . No mayo. Butter is out ! Pasta bothers me some . Cheese sauces or just cheese are not tolerated . No gravy . No bacon. Cooked onions or celery are horrible . I am 79 with stage 4 . On 0xygen 24/7 .I am on 4ltrs if moving around . 3 at night. If I am overactive even with air on , I drop to 85. Moving slow is hard to learn. I have not had any trips to hospital . But check your diet . It makes a great difference to me. Blessed Be all of you . ( I add picture to every message). Crystalena

Drink more water . Take a Musinex like product . There are other brands that are cheaper . I take the 1200 dose twice a day. I also take Famotodine for acid reflux . The water might be hard to measure . I fill two quart jars every morning. I keep them in the refrigerator. These are empty at the end of the day. I usually drink more .

I don't know what a plug is...but I contracted RSV 2 yrs ago at a children's (large B-Day gathering).
It lasted 9 week - day and night coughing/lost voice/breathing REALL bad, should have gone to ER..but even doc wouldn't let me in the office. Then I had pneumonia and then black spot found on my right lung. NP diagnosed me with COPD; doc - said no it's ASTHMA. I am told now, the nodules are small on lung - but I cough up mucus and phlegm every morning and evening - it's disgusting. COPD disks are $400-$600 - it's a sad day - that we can't make breathing affordable.

I am so sorry to hear what you have gone through and the medical costs are outrageous. I used the term "plug" loosely like the size of a quarter or so.
I dont know where I heard the term and its not important.
Stay strong and eat nutritious foods and join local pulmonary therapy exercize group if possible.
Hope you feel better soon.

There is a clinical trial for mucus plugs
The University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) has announced COPD clinical trials for 2025, offering at least 5 options, including studies on aerosolized N-Acetylcysteine (NAC) for mucus plug burden

@ccarl

I am 83 and use air Physio to help cough up the phlegm. Works well for me with a lot less coughing. I use Breztri for my COPD and more satisfied with it than anything else such as Symbicort and I had an allergy to something in trelegy

I’m going the same thing also I get the phlegm after eating a meal or a snack. So I like you I think we’re a long way off to the end, but it’s not much fun. Waiting to see if you can get better results.
