anyone else coughing up plugs of mucus with COPD

Posted by kllevinson @kllevinson, Mar 2 11:13am

is there anyone in stage four of COPD coughing up mucus plugs? It is very tiring. I don't know if this is the last next to the last stage or if this is what happens.

@kllevinson @crystalena The Air Physio is a handheld OPEP device (Oscillating Positive Expiratory Pressure) . You breathe in through the mouth piece and it adds resistance when you exhale which loosens the mucus and helps to cough it up. I prefer the Aerobika which is a different brand because it has an adjustment for the amount of resistance you need. Also because I can attach it to my nebulizer and neb my 7% saline while using the Aerobika. Disinfecting equipment is very important too so I like that I can put the aerobika in a baby bottle sterilizer at the end of the day or boil if you don't have a sterilizer.

Thank you for the explanation . ❤️ . Sounds like something I might need . I can’t seem to move phlegm any more . Guaifenesin time release isn’t doing much. I have to think there is more phlegm than I’m bringing up . Thank you again for your answer . Blessed Be, Crystalina

@kllevinson Yes, for about a year now I have been coughing up Mucus plugs, some an inch wide. In the last 6 months it's gotten worse. I cough up these about 15-20 times per day. I have had to go to the ER twice and was admitted in December 2024 because I could not breathe. The doctors did a CT Scan back in August 2024 and all they found was a single Node in my right upper lobe that was 5mm. Fast forward to March 19th, 2025, they repeated the chest CT Scan and I had about 15 new nodes, including a 1cm spiculated node in my right upper lobe along with 4 others that were 4 and 5mm in both right and left upper lobes. Yesterday 5/16 the performed a Robotic assisted biopsy of two nodes in my right and left upper lobe that had lit up on a Pet scan 2 weeks ago. My doctors believe it's cancer and I'll have the results in 3 to 5 days. My suggestion for you is to follow up with Pulmonary. I hope you don't have the same results I do. This is my 3rd cancer in 4 years, but my 1st in my lungs. Good luck to you. If you're a believer, please pray and ask others to pray for you. That got me through my other cancers. God Bless You and I know it's scary.

I have mucus that is usually clear, and sometimes it has bubbles in it. It is extremely thick and sticky, like jam! It is hard to get up, but feels so good to get it out! the amounts vary sometimes just a smaller amt other times A LOT! LIKE ALMOST A QUARTER CUP. DR TOLD ME TO TAKE MUCINEX which I dont like. benedryl works better for me (like finally i can breathe better!) but i have to be careful! can only take a very very small amount. like the pink tab..divide that into 12 ..so 1/12th once a day. opens everything up & helps to expectorae.
