Oral Lichen Planus
I have been diagnosed with oral lichen planus for over 12 years. Originally it was mild and able to control with Duke’s Mouthwash. In last 5 months have had two major flareups with considerable pain. My condition was managed by my general dentist. I now feel I need someone who specializes in OLP, but have had no luck finding anyone. I live in the Columbia, MD area which is near Baltimore. Does anyone know an OLP specialist in my area?

@lizralpol that happens with me too. Just have to avoid those foods till the mouth eases up. It does - in time and with the right medication which in my case is the Lyderm gel.
When I have a flare my gums and inner cheeks feel like I have hundreds of paper cuts! Eating anything sharp, crunchy or spicy is torture.
I am wondering if anyone else has swollen gums with the other symptoms?
This is a post I wrote a few months ago:
I found that my toothpaste (design for sensitive gums) that had a whitening feature might be a source of irritation. I switched to a brand called Happy Tooth and have not has a flare in 3 months…I also avoid acidic foods and anything spicy…
Now it has been over 6 months with out a flare! I buy Happy Tooth on AMAZON...I ate super spicy food recently and my gums were OK but I won't chance that again...my stomach was very unhappy!
As far as other symptoms, I have a few other AutoImmune issues and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome, which is a pain to get under control.
@moylandavis yes, I find toothpaste with whitening agent makes my lichen planus flare up, too.
How did you apply the gel?
Have any of you used FLUOROURACIL for oral lichen planus? Was it successful in relieving pain and inflammation?
@cgrasse54 you can put some gel on your finger tips and rub the affected areas, or put gel on a Qtip and apply to affected areas too. I prefer using g Qtip.
Years ago when our children had any mouth issues i.e. Thrash/Thrush, ulcers, etc., I would apply Gentian Violet with a qtip and the ulcers and/or rashes would be gone within 24 hours. The pediatricians would just 'scratch their head' ... If I was dealing with OLP now, I would certainly try it. The purple color in your mouth will go away, too, in a few hours.
