That’s great! They started me on 1.5 mg, to make sure I could tolerate it well first.
There are a multitude of products and treatments that claim to help with hair loss, some of them actually help but you have to stay on them, if you stop the new hair growth will fall out. I also know that Monoxidril, I might have misspelled it, can be bought without a prescription but it does affect your heart and this worries me so I’ve never tried it, I use Biotin every three months, then stop for three months, it helps with slowing down fallout but the results are small. I know there’s a lot of research going on with this problem but I haven’t heard of anything major yet except in the UK where they can actually grow new hair in the labs but I don’t know much about it. I hope one day they will find something that works and is safe to use for those who need it.
Hi!! Better late than never! I started taking a scoop of collagen powder in any drink you like a couple years ago and I can say my hair loss has slowed way down to almost nothing and my nails are healthier!!
I see the original post is old, but thought I’d chime in.
My endocrinologist suggested iron supplement every other day, mine is about 18 mg (hard to find a low dose iron pill) and Vitamin D, 2000 mcg.
He also said Biotin can mess with some blood work. I didn’t ask which blood work. I just don’t take it.
I had been shedding like crazy for over six months, my used to be thick hair! After a number of months on this regime, all has calmed down!! If the iron and Vitamin D didn’t help, he would offer me minoxidil, but I don’t need it now.
Do you have any problems with taking low dose iron pills? I suffer from hair loss too but I haven’t found anything that doesn’t cause other problems, in my case if I took iron or zinc, I would not be able to have bowel movements, it’s a huge side effect with this drug, I suppose it doesn’t affect you this way. I also looked at other options but most of them including herbal remedies come with some problems, they can affect other medications you’re taking…I also mentioned earlier that Monoxidril can cause heart problems. I would love to see my hair grow back but I don’t want to do a trade off to use them, you’re fortunate to have found something that works well and doesn’t mess up your health.
@willow5, I have begun taking 2000 IU vitamin D and my doctor recommended Hair, Skin, & Nails and there is biotin in those soft gels. There are 5,000 mcg biotin. I don't know if this is going to help. I was glad your problem settled down. I may be on the right path and I thank you for providing your experience. With all good wishes, @joybringer1
I take Hair, Skin and Nails and it's definitely helping. Much less shedding.
I take biotin, it helps some, but hair is still shedding, my Dermatologist recommended Nutrafol, I tried it and gave me diarrhea really bad, also is expensive. stopped taking it because of diarrhea.
@darleneporter, thank you for this post. I had been thinking about ordering some of this, but think now I should ask my doctor based on your experience. It is really maddening to have hair shedding everywhere. With all good wishes, @joybringer1
Don’t waste your money on biotin, collagen, nutrafol. Etc. see a dermatologist, have blood work done. If nothing shows up and you are near , in, or menopausal then that is the cause and unfortunately nothing will work except in some cases, minoxidil. I’ve wasted $$$$ to no avail. It’s just another nasty part of menopause and aging for many of us.
