Posted by kaker75 @kaker75, Dec 31, 2024

21 years ago I quit getting sleepy at bedtime…I dread nighttime because of this.. I started taking OTC sleep aides.. have taken something every night for 21 years.. some night I sleep
fairly well on the sleep aides.. next night don’t t sleep a wink…
Anyone else have a problem like this… it’s ruining my life … HELP!

I've been this way my entire life. I am so jealous of my dog. She hits her bed and five minutes later is sound asleep, while I'm tossing and turning for an hour or more. I took Ambien for awhile but the bad side effects caught up with me. Now I'm using Melatonin and didn't find it helpful at first, but after about a week it's finally started working.

I have extreme insomnia due to unchecked anxiety. My body cannot tolerate the “popular” anxiety meds like Lexipro, Celexa, Effexor, etc. Ativan, Xanax, Ambien have all been prescribed but they lost their effectiveness due to the length of time I was on them. I get 0 hours sleep. In a last ditch effort, I was prescribed Seroquel which is an antipsychotic (I do not have psychosis or schizophrenia). Doctor denied this medication was an antipsychotic. After one pill at night, I was falling over and could not walk the next morning. Another medication goes to be destroyed after trying one pill. Very distressing situation.

I have been on Zolpidem ER for quite some time and it seems it's been losing its affect by itself. I have added a non-prescription chewable ZZQuill tablet with my Zolpidem. I fall asleep again within 5 minutes, but still I can only get a maximum of 6.0 hours uninterrupted sleep. I suggest you check with your GP before trying.

My best.

Don't feel like the lone ranger. Lots of people have the same problem, I am one of them. Iam thinking of acupuncture to heal this problem; but it is not covered by bluecross. check into it my friend and good luck.

Read my comment to the initial post, and try Dayvigo and Zopiclone together. Find the lowest dose that works for you. I've settled on 5mg and 3.75mg respectively. I will never go back to not sleeping!

Tried 10mg Dayvigo and 3.75 Zopiclone before I read your post. Slept 6 hours but was very groggy the next day and was nauseous.
Will try your dose and hope it will do the trick.

Hi Jen George, that post was Jan 1, and I've since changed things. I found the Dayvigo less and less effective as the months went by, and considering the high price, I decided to stop it. I also think it was beginning to drag me into a depression as I've had similar experience with other neurotransmitter meds. I perked up 2 weeks after stopping it. Now I've decided to just keep it simple, I just take Zoplicone 3.75mg every night. It's good enough now that I'm retired and dont have to get up early. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, I have only been on Dayvigo about 10 days.
Started at 5 mg. Did nothing except except for giving me some weird dreams, feeling nauseous and a throbbing head ache. After 5 days I thought the 10 mg might improve things but to no avail.
Will try the 5 and zopiclone tonight as I have no other alternative.
Zopiclone worked for me for 20 years but slowly lost it's effectiveness.
Have been weaned from it but sure hope it will start working again.
Have a Dr. appointment tomorrow.
Don't know what we'll come up with this time.
She had me try Quetiapine before this and did not do much but give me an hour or so of sleep..

I've used the Zopiclone for just over a year. 7.5mg left me too "good for nothing" the next day. I need the Zopiclone to make me sleepy, otherwise it can take hours to fall asleep. I get about 2-3 hours of good sleep, then more tossing and turning. I'd sure like to sleep all night but I think I have a better chance of winning a lottery than that.
