Travel Nebulizer

Posted by debminuet @debminuet, Jun 5, 2024

Hello Everyone,
I dont use this site often only Im sure glad its here for us all. Its a bear dealing with MAC.
Can anyone recommend a travel nebulizer? I looked up the Phillips Innospire Go Portable Mesh Neb and it was discontinued. Ive just now got the guts to feel I can travel and I want to make sure the travel neb. is excellent.
I look forward to hearing back soon,
Thankyou,
Take Care. Keep Safe.
Deborah

I take NAC orally, and had not heard of nebulizing it. Could you tell me more about this? Did you have a Doctor order it?

Searching this forum for nebbing NAC will yield much info!

In reply to @scoop "Neb outside???" + (show)
If I could neb outside, it would be a solution, but while I am nebulizing, I need to be wearing the Vest with the Hill-Rom "shake me up" machine, which I can't take outside.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I am thankful for the Vest and for Acetylcysteine, because they have given me a lot of relief, so I may just need to make it work. 🙂

Hi Jan: Next best thing to Acetylcysteine outside is easy - even in now tundra New Hampshire. My desk has a window on one side about 4' away from where I sit. I setup a pedestal fan on the other side of my desk. The wind from the fan carries the smell right outdoors without turning my office into a freezer. My wife noticed that the smell no longer wafted through the house. win - win!

My pulmonologist recently told me to carefully watch the age of N acetylcysteine - when it stinks it is deteriorating, and probably no longer effective. She recommends buying a 30-60 day supply at a time from a source that sells a lot of it.
I am looking for such a source now, but haven't found one yet. My current vendor tells me they can't always guarantee a "fresh" batch.

I am trying to find a nebulizer for my 92 year old mother who needs to nebulizer 3 times per day. Her pulmonologist told me he has no recommendations so I am reaching out to see if anyone has any suggestions. I am looking for one that is for both albuterol and acetylcysteine and that goes fairly fast with a low noise level. She uses a table top so it does not need to be hand held. Thank you in advance.

I am happy with my Proneb Max. I’d bought a small cheap one because it was the only option to buy immediately. It was ok when I just used albuterol, but was slow and when I added saline, the time it took was prohibitive and I ordered the pro-neb max..
It has a higher psi so faster. It is louder (65-67 I think, so I wear headphones for noise.

If you use search by heading feature
(Magnifying glass) by heading, and search for nebulizer, you’ll find other options and opinions.

For the Acapella, the function of the vibratory pieces degrades over time. I was amazed at how much when I did my first replacement - the old one was on the highest setting, and I had to back off to just over half. Now, when I get to the highest setting, I know it will soon be time to order a new one.

For the Pari cups, or any other nebulizer cups, the repeated boiling (or alcohol) degrades the plastic over time. Recommendations for replacement vary from 2 to 6 months. Microscopic cracks and pits for in the plastic, giving bacteria fun places to hide. In addition, I become concerned about whether microscopic particles of plastic are finding their way into my lungs as it wears. So, I wash with HOT water and soap after every use, sterilize after 6-8 uses or weekly. And I discard after 10-12 sterilizations.

All that said, I use sidestream nebulizers from the hospital supply house, not Pari Sprint or AeroEclipse types, so they are not that expensive in the grand scheme of things - around $10 each with new tubing.

@sueinmn In re-reading this I have a couple of questions.
Is this it..Respironics SideStream Reusable ? I tried to find detailed information but couldn't find detailed info.
I take it, it comes apart, mouth piece from cup etc. for cleaning?
Is it a continuous flow nebulizer cup?
Do you still sterilize after 6-8 uses or weekly?
Do you still discard after 10-12 uses?
I would imagine it has gone up in price from 2024.
If one is using one nebulizer cup, are my calculations correct, that would be using it 180 times and 180 sterilizations if doing it daily for 6 months with the same nebulizer cup etc. Am I seeing that correctly?????
Curious if you have made any changes and in consideration of the EflowErapid.
I was thinking of making an inquiry with a local hospital pharmacy about nebulizer cups.
I am looking forward to Dr. Hond's and Dr. Faulkinham's study on their reviewing the cleaning methods in consideration of MAC etc.

@blm1007blm1007 I only used the Respironics nebulizers once - then switched to generic reusable ones. Then I always had 2 in rotation (when I nebbed 3 times a day, I had 3 in use.) Whether generic or "name brand" I replaced them after about 3 months.

With the eFlow Rapid, you have a different setup - the entire head is the nebulizer unit, and according to Pari, it is to be replaced after 6 months. Since I only neb every 3-4 days now, I plan to use it for a year. You no longer use the separate cups.

The hospitals generally only have disposable nebulizers, packaged with tubing and a mask. These cannot be sterilized. Most of us order replacement parts on-line. I have used Nebology, Just Nebulizers, and Direct Home Medical in the past, where I could often get a better price by ordering 5-10 at a time. Now I use Nebology for my Pari.

@sueinmn OK Thanks....
I have used Save Rite Medical at this point in time for the nebulizers/tubes etc.
Thanks for the Direct Home Medical...that one I did not know of.
For me: 2023 Rx $4.00 and change
2024 Rx $10.00 and change
2025 $60.00 and change not Rx...for 60 viles 4L 7% solution
All from Walgreens.
Walgreens said no Rx coupon, coupon longer available or only available for the $60.00 price.
What are you paying?
I wonder what others are paying for the 60 Viles of 4L, 7% saline solution???
If you are paying a better price than $60.00...where, how etc. etc.?????
Thanks.
