I was going to start Forteo next month
I'm scared and start wondering if I should start Forteo, your advice is very much appreciated!
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
Best regards

Thanks for sharing @reldo ! I think the delayed approval from your insurance company turned out to be a blessing which gave your bone remodeling an uptick from a suppressed state. Your early bone marker responses showed that 👍

3 Reactionsbroken13 - I'm sorry I took so long to respond. My Endo wants me to do the yearly Reclast injections. I will start in April. Not looking forward to it. It sounds like most get sick for a few days, if not worse. Did you do the full 2 years of Forteo the first time? What did you take in between your 2 rounds of Forteo?

1 ReactionI took Forteo in 2016 for the full two years. Prior to that I had tried Bosophomates but discontinued after only a few weeks when I had a severe reaction. I only went on Forteo after seeking out an endocrinologist on an urgent basis, as I was experiencing a series of spinal compression fractures. Following the two years of Forteo, I did only one shot of Prolia and had osteocrinosis of the jaw and lost two molars which occurred when I was near due for the second shot. For the last 5 years I was taking Raloxifene with no side effects. I am now 67 with -3.5 in my hip, as they can no longer take reading from my spine.
Recommendation was to do Evenity, but that was not approved, so I am now 2 months in with another course of Forteo. Not sure how long I will take it or what I will follow up with at this time. Would love to hear from anyone else doing an extended or second course of Forteo.
All the best to you!

2 ReactionsI'm doing the Forteo injections and I'm the biggest scaredy cat ever. After three months, I can honestly say it's no big deal and I'm glad I went on this and not one of the other medications.

1 Reaction@ipg I had severe jaw pain. The dentist insisted there was no crack or cavity. I went to him several times and asked him to just pull the tooth. He said it was a healthy tooth and I must have just 'bruised' it?! My family doctor sent me for a proper bone scan with die and they determined osteonecrosis. I ended up loosing two molars, but because I had just been on Forteo, apparently that helped with my healing.

Thank you for your response. I had a dexi in 2024 and overall at 2.9 My endocrin wants to treat. Putting it off. Joined a gym getting a personal trainer. Scared. I feel that I am at risk for MRONJ given that I( have exostosis and tori. Dentist says good oral hygiene is the key. Endocrin wants to place me on Forteo or Tymlos. Scared beyond belief. Told them I will revisit it next year. Will be active in the gym. Want to buy Fortibone. Live alone. What's going to happen to me should I have these side affects? Any advice?
@ipg I don't think we are suppose to really give advice. Visiting it again next year is reasonable I think, and redoing your bone density to ensure you are not getting more loss. I think either Tymos or Forteo is a great choice to rebuild bones.

1 Reaction@ipg Forteo and Tymlos are not issues for ONJ. If your T-score was -2.9 in 2024, it may be worse now. Fortibone is not the answer. I'd consider Tymlos because the pen is adjustable so that you can lower the dose. Even a year on Tymlos can get you better than -2.0.
