Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.
hugz,

Hi all:. I am fortunate that my PC will write script for hydrocodone 7.5/acetaminophen 325 mgs. If We have to move away from San Jose,(losing our mobile home) I hope I can find another good PC wherever we end up. Wishing all of you many pain free productive hours today. I have so few of those, that I cherish those hours. Victorious 69

I agree with you. There are areas of medicel care to deal with drug abuse. Pain management needs to be treated on an individual basis for whatever disease, etc. We dont need government intrusion or influence. It's affected what drugs my pharmacy will order. I'm sick & definitely dont have the energy to deal with it.

@oregonggirl am so with you. Liked gman007's link to NAD. Bible says if we lived properly we could expect to live to 120. Not interested in lenghth of years, but like all of us, in quality of life, and being useful til God takes me home.79 yr old Husband losing his job next week, and we have to cash out of our mobile home. I just turned 70 and never dreamed we would be in this health condition of being caregivers for each other. Have much to post so will take remainder to "I just want to talk" group. Sending you hugs and encouragement. Dori

How do you write your own scripts..

Well, so much for anything stronger than OTC's. Guess I need to find the stalwart side of me. Get more exercise to strengthen my muscles. Guess I did not look or sound pathetic enough. It matters not. Rather bummed, but it is what it is.

Hi, I'm a Volunteer Mentor and I've been reading the posts here. I'm concerned about your statement about dying being a "miracle drug". My concern is around you being in so much pain that dying seems preferable to living with the pain. I have taken Tramadol in the past, but it's for moderate pain. It sounds as if your pain exceeds what it's helpful for. I have a couple of questions:
- Have you had genetic testing to determine what medications will work best for you?
- Are you taking an antidepressant right now? If so, which one?
- Is there a possibility you could go to a Mayo Clinic for evaluation and diagnosis? For me, Mayo has been the best at finding the right answers to my issues in the past when others could not.
- Do you live in a state that allows use of medical marijuana? I have found medical marijuana helpful for my anxiety and some help with pain. I like CBD which is the part of marijuana that doesn't make you high. It helps my emotions to calm which in turn helps my pain.

I sincerely hope you find some help and relief from your pain by participating on Mayo Connect. Please let us know the answers to the questions I asked so we can get to know you better. Thanks and warm regards,

Please clarify what you mean by "writing your own scripts". If you're talking about prescriptions, you can't do that legally. A physician must write prescriptions for you. If you mean something else, please explain.

I am 69 and I don't have the same experience of being disrespected by my doctors or their staff. I do think that often what I "see" is what I get. What I'm saying is if I respect myself and others, that's what I get in return. To tell you the truth, if someone in one of my doctor's offices didn't show me respect, I probably wouldn't even notice because I'm not into that. I enjoy life and people more now than when I was younger.

I have a hunch that your level of pain has you down so you see things from a negative point of view right now. Are you taking antidepressants? If you are, you may want to ask your doctor about possibly changing your med. As I said to Oregongirl, genetic testing is available that will show the antidepressant that will work best for you. If you're not taking an antidepressant, you may want to consider talking with your doctor about starting one. I take Citalopram and it changed my life once I adjusted to it. I started about 6 years ago and I have lost many of my fears. I think it also helped with my pain levels.

I'm not a medical professional so I'm not diagnosing your need. I'm just going by the emotions expressed in your posts. You seem down right now. Please correct me if I'm not reading this right. I want you to find relief for your pain.

Warmly,

Even calling a Pain Mgt doctor feels like I am calling in and required to present all my prison records. I don't have any. But the receptionist take their job serious. Obviously, they are young and have not yet experienced the pain we have and going through old age with pain. Their answer to my call is for the doctor himself to send the referral, not give it to me. OMG. So, now I have called the University of Texas where I am seen and asked that the doctors refer me to them. TWO of my doctors on my team have referred me to Pain Mgt. So maybe within a month I MIGHT have some help. I am sorry to say that Seniors will probably die sooner due to lack of pain control. When I am having a flare, I would welcome peace. Fortunately, I am a Christian and I pray instead of getting depressed. I laugh at the idiots who have made this path to relief impossible to breach.
