Fibromyalgia pain: Let's connect

Posted by clownscrytoo @clownscrytoo, Oct 22, 2016

Is there anyone here that suffers from fibro? I had the 'tender spot test' several years ago and I had 17 out of the 18. I try my hardest to get through the pain with my 4 hydrocodone/acetaminaphine pills a day, Tiger Balm rubbed into areas that are the worst, light exercises, and distracting myself with hobbies or chores, etc; but there are many occasions where none of that helps and I spend most of the day holding down the couch, getting up about 30-45 minutes after that, walking/standing around the house for 15-20 minutes, or sitting for about 15-30 min. I do not drive and my husband works 6 days a week, overtime almost every day, so I'm alone a lot. my wonderful husband is very supportive and I am very grateful for that, but my only other friends are online, out of state, and I will probably never even get to meet them. when extreme pain takes over, my depression takes over and it is so difficult to find hope. does anyone have tips for fibro, whether diet or over-the-counter meds (I've tried them all, I think), or anything, besides hobbies and such? I've tried every over-the-counter med, and the Tiger Balm does cover some of what the pain pill doesn't help, but I'm hoping one of our members might have some knowledge that could help. I'd really appreciate it.
hugz,

Hello @lucia, welcome to Connect. I moved your discussion post and combined it with an existing discussion on living with fibromyalgia. I did this so you can meet all of the other members actively discussing fibromyalgia, pain medications, and other coping mechanisms. If you are responding by email, I suggest clicking on the VIEW & REPLY button at the bottom so that you can see the entire discussion.

@lucia, have you discussed your fogginess and drowsiness with your physician? Has he or she suggested any other possible medications to try?

Yes and no, not with my new physician. Only saw her once. Had other concerns. I will broach the subject. In the past when I complained, I was ignored. At that time I was prescribed and was taking just that ... a higher dose, which was intolerable until I demanded less, which I take now. Still, it bothers me.

I'm desperate. I take 4 oxycodine a day and 3 lyrica. Actually I take them for a bad back but my fibro symptoms diminished somewhat are starting them in 2009 so I was really happy about that.
Lately I have been in agony. Its been raining here in western new york for several days and I can barely walk. I developed a pain deep in my right hip that was preventing me from sleeping. It was a low pressure system barreling through. It must have passed yesterday because I fell asleep and finally woke up for over an hour around 5:00.
I'm going back to the cbd found in pot. My pain management Dr isnt buying into it because he says "There's no way of regulating it". Someone recently told me that cbd or cdb whatever it is doesn't show up in urine screens. Only thc does. Does anyone know anything about that? I'm desperate, depressed and feel like I dying.

I tried a diet plan that a doctor wrote and for me it worked. It had something to do with not eating anything from the night shade families such as anything with tomatoes, potatoes, etc. You do have to follow it exactly but it is worth it plus you can lose some unwanted inches as well.

The answer may be, Daaa? My muscles (thigh, calf) have burning pain and weakness when I walk for more than a minute or so. I"ve been checked for PAD, no problem. Spine does not have significant stenosis. Are these symptoms part of fiber?

I have a low back injury that has caused the same exact symptoms but I think its exasperated by the fibro. Especially the neuropathyI my feet..

@wandamiller Night shades is a group or family of foods such as peppers, tomatoes, etc. Here is a link to more information on them

Hello, it sounds pretty bad. I think you may want to consult a pain specialist. Do you have any stress factors in life that are almost unbearable? Climate also influences my pain level. I am allergic to Codeine, so the other pain I have is never covered. Pain, pain, pain. Sigh.
I am not good with abbreviations and don't know what you mean.
Hi @wandamiller, I also live in western New York, and this weather has been causing my fibromyalgia increased pain, as well.

I cannot take pain medications or drugs like duloextine, etc. for my pain because Mayo figured out that genetically, I don't properly-metabolize them which causes me to receive little-to-no pain relief from them. (These drugs had actually been building up in my system causing more pain.)

As a result, I've been trying alternative treatments. I started going to acupuncture in January; it has helped, and as time goes on, I don't have to go as frequently because the relief it gives lasts for longer durations.

I'm not sure if you're able to do this with your back issues, but my pain management doctor also suggested yoga. (I'm starting in May), along with eating a cleaner diet (organic foods). I definitely feel better eating organically. I also find that stretching when I wake up in the morning, while still laying in bed, helps, and I do feel better when I walk more.

Hopefully, our rainy weather will clear-up soon, we'll experience warmer weather, and you can find some relief soon.
