Anyone using Nicotine patches for Long Covid?

Posted by tgroff @tgroff, Apr 19, 2023

There is lots of discussion on Facebook Long Covid forums about nicotine patches helping with long covid symptoms after a few days of adjustment to the patches. Any thoughts on this?

Challenging in what way?

Hi,
Yes, some times it makes me nauseous -even to vomiting. So I have started
taking a small amount every two hours or so. Adds up to 2-4 mgs.
I have taken a break. And found a news article from a research
group about an inhaler (or simple nasal drip) called Pcans which
has been found to cure colds, flu and even covid ( in mice.) It is not
billed as such and has already passed through FDA.
We have ordered it to see about it. Apparently it doesn't include
new drugs.
Cheers, Eliza

I am following the protocol of Italian researchers to, I hope, help restore my sense of smell lost with LC over 4 years ago. The product used is a very finely ground PeaLut called Glialia, which is a powder you keep under your tongue for 10 mins. designed to dissolve and pass the barrier between the body/blood stream and the brain. Since I’m so long without smell I spent the first month taking 2 sachets per day along with 1 alpha lipoic acid 600 mg pill, and smell training. I used to consider myself lucky if I had one smell a day, at the weekend I was conscious of say 4…so bit better. Food not smelling yet though! Not 100% sure if Epitech the manufacturers are selling in USA but I do know I GB company was selling to US. Try looking things up thru Uk charity Abscent ( though changed their name this year you’ll find a link)

Hi,
Thank you, this is most helpful. I have been on 4mgs of nicotine for 4 days now.
After vaccine and after covid I noticed brainfog and lack of energy.
I don't know how much I should be taking as preventative; Dr. Ardis and his wife
and his clients take it as preventative - and as knd of cleanser of cells after covid.
Please stay in touch -

Had been taking 15 mcg zinc tablets for years as protocol for hypothyroidism, so I doubt I was short of that prior to LC smell loss!

Yes, I have done nicotine patches twice. The first time it worked like a charm! I haven't felt that good for ~18 months! I was so impressed that I recommended it to a few people I knew who were suffering with COVID long haul, and all of them also had positive results. (Walgreen's 7 mg circular patch w/Light Brown backing)

Then, ~3-4 months later, my cough/throat flem started to come back, just a little. I remembered reading online that sometimes it took two cycles of 7 days of patches, and hunt season was coming... so, I decided to do another round just to be safe. I started with the Walgreen's patches, but I ran out after the first day. When I got to my local Walgreen's store, they were also out of all 7 mg patches.

So, I went down the street to Walmart, where they had Equate Transparent patches (oddly, nothing else in 7mg patches). I bought those, went out side, put one on my arm and drove off. ~55 min later, I was deathly ill. I spent that evening in the ER. They coded my bill "Toxic Effect of Tabacco/Nicotine".

I do not know if there is a difference between the type/manufacture of patches? But, I had two VERY different experiences. I do not know why ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I lost my sense of smell from covid in December 2020.
I recently listened to a podcast about the benefits of nicotine and long covid. I started using 1/6th of a 21 mg patch (I cut it in to 6 little squares) of nicotine and within a week I have my sense of smell back to 100%!!!
I used to be a smoker 35 years ago and I have 0 nicotine craving so that is not i. Anyway a worry! Or concern!
I’m so incredibly grateful to have regained my sense of smell because I had resolved to never getting it back after almost 3 years. (It was actually dangerous because I couldn’t smell things burning or gas!)
Don’t be afraid to try it, I had 0 negative side effects!!

I, too have lost sense of taste and smell for over a year now. I had two stellate ganglion nerve blocks which did nothing to restore them. My question is how long do you have to be on nicotene patches after your senses return, or do you have to be on them indefinitely?

I still put the patches on maybe 1 to 3x a week. I haven’t had ANY negative side effects. I would highly recommend 3.5 mg patches. It is truly awesome having my sense of smell back!

I am getting ready to try the patches. Since covid, I've been struggling with chronic constipation. Nothing in moving and I have lost weight. Doctors haven't been able to help.

I read your story and am confused. How many patches did you use in 1 day to make you sick? I haven’t ever used any Nicotine Patches, but I would think you wouldn’t go through an entire box in a day? Please explain. I lose my taste and smell 2 years ago in December of 2022, still don’t have it back. I’ve also had 7 Stellate Ganglion Block injections and this last one which was this past Friday did nothing for me. I won’t be having any more. I am interested in learning how to use this Nicotine Patch however.

Please try a week of steel cut Irish oatmeal in the morning. Try to eat one cup with nuts and dried canberries and see if that helps. I try to make four or five servings at a time because it takes so long to cook. Hope this helps!
