Adult daughter caring for ill father -lost and depressed

Posted by t33333xas @t33333xas, 2 days ago

Father got his cancer diagnosis last November so its been a year and he has refused to try treatment, he has mood swings, and it looks like I'm the only thing he can control in his life. Whether its when I go out, where I go, he gets upset when I don't read his mind to fix or clean something. Looking for some advice and words of encouragement (besides me moving out to preserve my mental health). I love him more than anything but he really tests my patience and pushes me further into depression and isolation.

Do you have access to a local support group? Many of us also get a therapist when taking care of a difficult parent or spouse. How is your father's cancer going? Do you have a hospice near you? He can be on hospice a long time, not just when death is imminent, and they provide services that help you!

I'll ask my therapist for that it seems more helpful that zoom calls. His cancer is progressing and he is resulting to more supplements and teas on amazon rather than seeing a doctor. I try to convince him but he's stubborn and hardhearded so it feels worthless trying. As for hospice I feel like between me and my mom we would take better care of him.

@t33333xas hospice services don't replace you and your mom. They generally provide an aide for two hours 5 days a week and a nurse comes once or twice. It would give you a break but not replace you and it also provides someone to talk to.
