Muscle "pulls" due to statin?

So, I have been on rousavastatin for maybe 7 years and I have had several instances where I have "pulled" a hamstring muscle just walking.... briskly, but just walking, not running. I have read many threads about statins and general muscle pain and weakness, but none seem to be what is happening to me. I am fit and active riding bikes, walking, and hiking, etc. but then all of a sudden on a walk, always when well warmed up and long into it, one of my hamstrings will "pop", not audibly but painfully, like I would occassionally get when sprinting back in my youth. This is very frustrating because these are really slow to heal and take me out of my workout routine. Anyone else here on statins experience this?

It's not something I have ever seen in all my readings, whether medical journals or anecdotal posts sharing experiences across several forums. Muscle aches, yes, but never any injury that would show up on an MRI.

How old are you? These kinds of things start happening the older you get. I'm a runner, and once I hit 50, aches and pains were a lot more common. I'm 65 now, and it certainly hasn't gotten any better.

I am 71 and fit, considering I have had a knee and hip replacement in the last year. I was a runner and triathelete back in the day but had to quit due to a bad football knee. Before I quit running I would occassionally pull a calf muscle whilst running. Also similar to this, when well into a run and well warmed up. Those are a real PITA to heal, too.

After giving up running I turned to cycling in a big way and that tends to strengthen quads more than hamstrings. That imbalance can allow quads to overpower the hamstrings... but walking?? IDK. When this heals I'll spend some time on hamstring specific strength and stretching. If it ever heals.

I too get hamstring pulls
And I have severe lumbar stenosis??

Please keep us posted if you do figure out the root cause. Also consider asking your doctor of you can check your Vitamin D and make sure you are hydrated.

Not sure about the root cause, but after a week on CoQ10 my leg seems to be healed. I did a 1 3/4 mile walk today at near normal pace. Not pushing it, but pain free and no twinges. I am not ready to make the direct cause and effect connection to the CoQ10, however. I am an engineer and don't give much credibilty to anecdotal evidence, even my own. But so far so good, and I plan to stay on the stuff for a couple of years and see if I can avoid recurrence. Then maybe I'll start to believe.
