Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) Surgery Options
I had a Urolift procedure last February for my BPH symptoms and it was a total failure. The implants are still in position though. I am looking for a different procedure to alleviate my BPH problem and Rezum seems to be a good alternative. Can it be done considering my prior Urolift procedure. If not, what would be your recommendation.

Did the Urologist explain why Uro lift did not work for you? It should work provided that your prostate was not too large for the procedure. How large is your prostate? Do you have a large median lobe? Your Urologist should be able to give you an explanation that makes sense.
I am scheduled for GreenLight surgery for BPH. Is HoLEP the same as Greenlight?
The green light laser is the one used for Photoselective Vaporization (PVP). I pasted the description of this procedure and the one using the Holmium laser from Mayo’s website below. I have had both. My PVP lasted about 15 years and I elected to have the HOLEP procedure to remove more tissue and hopefully not require retreatment.
Photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP). A laser is used to melt away (vaporize) excess prostate tissue and enlarge the urinary channel. This procedure is generally used to treat prostates that are mild to moderately enlarged.
Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP). A laser is used to cut and remove the excess prostate tissue that is blocking the urethra. Another instrument is then used to cut the prostate tissue into small pieces that are easily removed. HoLEP can be an option for men who have a severely enlarged prostate.
I would certainly try some lifestyle changes before another surgery. Being a little underweight may help, double voiding can help, anti-inflamitory diet can help, Cialis can help, eliminating cafiene, sugar, spices, and alcohol may help. I am sure many more things can help and there is the possibility that doing nothing may be the best long term option.
For anyone interested i finding a urologist in Charlotte, NC who performs the HoLEP procedure, there is one that I know of and she is excellent! Her name is Dr. Rebecca Gerber, with Atrium Urology. She has performed over 700 HoLEP procedures, to date. She performed mine on Sept 23, 2024 and I have been very pleased with every aspect of her care, pre-, post- and during the actual surgery. I cannot recommend her enough. She is also training uro's in the area to perform the procedure so that we will soon have more capable and fully trained uro's in the market. You can google her name and find online videos of her explaining HoLEP as well as one of her lecturing to a group of uro's about her methodology.
