Reversal of a fundoplication
I had a hernia and the fundoplication done in February as post this my chest is on fire. Going back to see the surgeon who did it on Tuesday. Has anybody had the same experience? If this guy does not have a answer heading for Mayo.
Thanks
Dennis

Has anyone here had the Stretta procedure to help repair the LES? and did it work for you? Had hiatal surgery (referred to as a 'giant') a year ago moving my stomach which had migrated behind my heart back into lower body but didn't do Fundo. Still experiencing reflux and will have endoscopy balloon expansion of any constrictions in my esophagus tomorrow after healing of its ulcers. Thank you for sharing your experience with Stretta procedure as considering.

Did you find a solution for reversal ?
Go to Mayo in either case.. my local surgeon struggled for 2 months as I lost 50 pounds.. . I was slim before.. now fight to keep weight on
I just had a Nissen fundoplication done on Aug 28,2024. I had an endoscopy and the surgeon said everything was fine and I really didn’t need stretching. After surgery, it hurt to even swallow water or broth. After 3 weeks I tried soft food and had aspiration into my lungs and ended up in ER. They finally did a test w a liquid that showed I barely had a space from my esophagus to stomach. So my doctor reluctantly did surgery again and took out 1 stitch, did another Endoscopy and said I was fine. I was in the hospital 5 days, went home after 1 day of 2nd surgery. I’m back where I was, 1wk later, not able to eat even soft foods and everything feeling like it’s stuck in my esophagus. I have lost 15 lbs and can’t afford to lose anymore! My doctor is annoyed and says fine we’ll undo the surgery! Help!!
Typical. They don't want to admit they screwed up. I also had this done and had worsening swallowing. Had a swallow study and was told they wrapped it too tight. Dr told me you can't reverse it. Saw a new GI doctor who injected botox in my esophagus and stretched it with much relief. If you're not happy with your Dr find a new one that actually cares!
About three years ago I had the fundaoplication surgery due to extreme acid reflux and Barrett’s esophagus. Doctor cut a hole in my esophagus and I was on a heart line (for food) for two months. after that, they slowly started me on liquids after a month or so I started unsolved foods. They also repaired a hernia. It was fine for a while last year. They did a endoscopy and other test that showed I had gastroparesis, which I’m sure is from the surgery six months ago . The doctor put Botox in , Hoping to help release the food into the intestines. The last six months have been not good. I can tell the food stays in my stomach for days. My stomach is very extended and, the heartburn is bad. I need to discipline myself to eat soft foods or soup. Next week I go in for another endoscopy and another injection of Botox, If anyone is contemplating, this surgery, DO NOT DO IT! I wish. I had gone on a diet myself to correct the reflux.
I had the same results. See my comments to another person. I am thinking about going to Mayo. I know you have to live with gastroparesis, but what did Mayo do for you? if it’s just telling you what to eat I can do that myself. I would love to hear from you before I go. Thanks my email is bmtrumps@yahoo.com.
@bmtrumps I’ve never heard of this , but have excess heartburn, I couldn’t stay off my medicine to do a heartburn test . The heartburn was getting so bad after day 3 I had to start meds again. I started and continue getting pains between the shoulder blades. Now the heartburn is worse than it was before the test. I’m waiting on my other doctors clearances before I can have a scope done. I also have a hiatal hernia and bloating. I’m on Omeprazole in the morning and Pantoprazole in the evening
I also had the excess heartburn and the prescription did not seem to help. I had developed Barrett’s esophagus, which is the precursor to cancer. So my doctor suggested I get the fundoplication surgery. During the surgery, he cut myself Agus, which led to a feeding tube for months. I have since read that this is A surgery that often goes wrong. It can damage the nerves in your stomach. It can also cause gastroparesis, which is what I have now. I am back on heartburn medicine. I usually just take it in the morning. my diet has changed from being very healthy to not healthy at all. I can no longer have fresh vegetables, nuts, fiber, etc. when I eat only soft foods and soups, I seem to be better. I am dealing with extreme constipation because I cannot use the fiber anymore. Hope you find some solution. But if they suggest a fundoplication surgery, I would not do it
