Severe Edema, Furosemide does not seem to be working anymore

Hi.

Have DCM, diagnosed in 1999. Currently EJF 17%. Had CrT-D device changed a few weeks back. On a host of medication including Entresto, and Coralan etc.

I am not able to get rid of the excess water. Tried various brands of Furosemide and still the same. It appears my body is rejecting it.

Has anyone experienced this? What are my options? I am reading of bumetanide and torsemide, has anyone had sucess changing to a difference loop diuretic? Also on potasium sparring diuretic currently as well, but still not joy.

Hi @agentj, Sorry you are having to go through all that. You didn't mention what dosage of furosamide you were taking nor the frequency throughout the day. Might there be any possibility of upping the dose or frequency? Best of luck, Dave

Hi, when the furosemide and fluid restrictions did not do the trick in lowering excess water, my husband's cardiologist put him on torsemide and metolazone together. This worked! He was able to drop the metolazone after 3 months but continues on the torsemide. What was sad was that his water consumption was so limited that he was actually dehydrated even though he held water. Once the new drugs were started he saw improvement almost immediately. I wish you the best!
