Managing and Living With PACs and PVCs

Posted by rr1967 @rr1967, Aug 14, 2023

Hello all. I have posted in this forum before and I thank you for your advice. I appreciate more support please.

I am about to turn 56 and I have dealt with PACs and PVCs for the past 20 years. The come and go and now they seem to be getting worse. My cardio, regular doc, and electrophysiologist all say that I am fine and that I have too much stress and anxiety (which I do..I suffer from GAD and depression.) They all say that PACs are benign and that most PVCs are benign.

I had an exercise stress echo in 2019 (all normal). Several EKGs this year...all normal. Another Zio Patch Heart Monitor that I wore for a week. Normal sinus rhythm with PACs. My PAC/PVC burden hovers between 1.5 to 1.8 percent. I have had a recent chest xray and plenty of blood work. All normal. I am borderline type 2 diabetic and my cholesterol and triglycerides are all normal. I do take blood pressure meds and it is well controlled. I try to be active almost every day and I do practice CBT for my anxiety. My resting heart rate is about 55 and my cardio says that is normal.

What else can I do to reduce the PACs and PVCs or manage them? Some days they are fast and furious and some days they simply come and ago. But they are ruining my daily life and causing more depression and fear. They are awful in the morning, reduce a bit in the afternoon, and reduce a bit more in the evening.
My cardio again states that they are fine and to not worry.

I have tried a beta blocker (made my heart rate too low and I was too tired) and a pill called Diltiazem. Really had no effect and made me too tired. I don't qualify for any procedure and the one pill they are still offering me is Flecianide but that one has WAY too many side effects and I have had at least two cardiologists warn me from taking it.
What are you experiences, advice, etc?
Thank you!

Higher absorption using BioPerine does not improve blood values of Ubiquinol
The product you are using is Ubiquinone +BioPerine(black pepper). Ubiquinone has to undergo transformation into the active form Ubiquinol for it to be useful. As we age we loose the ability to transform ubiquinone into ubiquinol. So increasing ubiquinone doesn't help. Also you should note that Bioperine can affect levels of other supplements and drugs.

They ask what brand I was taking. I'm happy with it so that's all that matters.

My post was not intended to be personal. I am sorry. I should have not used the word you and therefore sound critical of you. I did mean to use the post to try to be educational that is backed by science. Ubiquinone is different from ubiquinol and our bodies need ubiquinol esp after the age of 30 and especial for those of us who are older and facing all kinds heart pathologies. I have also found even a lot of doctors including cardiologists are not aware of the the differences between these 2 kinds of CoQ 10.

In case it matters to anyone reading, Costco sells the Webber Naturals brand of ubiquinol.

Taurine is an amino acid that has been shown to calm the heart. Google it. I get NOW brand, 500mg from Amazon. Ectopics happen when the heart beats too soon. Like premature atrial contractions, PACs. Again Google is your friend. 🙂

Metoprolol only makes it take longer for the repolarization of myocytes between beats. This means, it slows down the heart....AND...makes the muscle beat less strenuously, which helps with low-grade hypertension. Metoprolol doesn't stop arrhythmias, including PACs. You need an ablation for that, possibly one of the myriad of anti-arrhythmic drugs. But not metoprolol. It's a 'rate' medicine, not a 'rhythm' medicine. It keeps the rate low if the heart goes into fibrillation or tachycardia. At least, that's the plan. Didn't work especially well for me as my AF evolved and began to come on more frequently. In fact, once back into NSR, I would go into bradycardia due to the higher dose prescribed to try to keep my rate low when I was in AF. I went from 12.5 mg BID (one tablet cut in two) to 75 mg BID inside of six months. It was too much, and I don't want to repeat the sensation I felt when I was getting pins and needles at the back of my neck, feeling I was about to pass out. This was at 100 kph on a local highway. Behind the wheel. And I was not unusual. A great many patients report that they get over-medicated and go into dangerous bradycardia with metoprolol. For most, the relief comes after a successful ablation.

I was diagnosed with PACs, PVCs and Left Bundle Branch Block. I has having like 3500 PVCs daily. Anyway, I have found that a combination of Arginine and Taurine totally eliminated my Left Bundle Branch Block and I now have no PVCs or PACs. You can find the scholarly journals online. I am not a doctor! Here is the link: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16797868/

@nhectasia - I see that you were trying to share a link to a medical study. There is a temporary period where members are not allowed to share a link when joining to help prevent spamming by solicitors.

Let me help share the study you tried posting:

How much of the taurine and arginine do you take(dosage)? What is the manufacturer of both (make)? Where do you purchase these? Thank you!

I use 1000 Arginine and 1000 Taurine Morning and Night. Any brand is fine but I use "Life Extensions Taurine and Best Naturals L Arginine... but just pick a brand with good reviews and price. I buy at Amazon. I hope it helps!
