Mucus in throat

Posted by karen10225 @karen10225, Jul 24 12:38pm

I constantly have mucus lining my throat even after saline nebulizer. This makes me have to clear my throat all day. Does anyone have a suggestion for this? I am really growing weary and wondering how to get through each day. I have had bronchiectasis for 20+ years and mycobacterium simiae for about 4 to 5 years. I have chosen not to treat due to many other health conditions. All I can do is airway clearance, some exercise and eat a decent diet. I see my doctors every six months, but that really isn’t much help. HELP

I have allergies and significant sinus issues which is thought to be cause of my bronchiectasis (or that I had MAC and cleared). I have pretty persistent post nasal drainage. Azelastine helped, but Mayo has a triple nasal spray that includes Ipratropium that is better. The latter last 6 hours and I have just Ipratropium spray to use mid day when needed. It is the med that probably helps most. I also do 2x daily sinus rinse with mometazone. I have the OK to try to wean off some of these once allergy season is over and will start with the steroid in sinus rinse. Good luck!

NAC can thin mucus and It is also good for lung health. The safe dose is up to 1800 mg per day. Any strong antioxidants also help lung health. Try to eat five different kinds of fruit everday like apple banaba berries kiwi, and you can blend them into juice if easier to take. In addition, there are some lung rehabilation exercise youtube video online. If you have a sensitive gut, please be very careful about what food to eat and what food to avoid. I don't eat any food with milk or wheat or cold drink /Food. And ny gut health becomes much much better.
Take care!

I have a similar issue. My mucus is very sticky and ends up in my throat where it tickles. Coughing it up doesn't always work. So, being a huge castor oil fan (I have used it for various reasons on my body, and found it to be a miracle product), I started putting it on my throat. I can feel the mucus dripping down my throat and removing it from the area it tickles. Of all the oils, castor oil goes the deepest under the skin. It is known to remove toxins from the body as well. Until I find something better, this works for me. Good luck!

Good afternoon. I believe you are currently being treated for MAC, is that correct?
Have your doctors advised you to do airway clearance, and to use nebulized saline to loosen the sticky mucus so you can cough it out?

Hello, yes I do 7% saline everyday. It helps with airway clearance and to get the sputum out. But there are times of the day, such as being at work, out in public, or driving in the car, I get a sudden tickle that won't go away. In times like this I need the castor oil. Since I've been on Arikayce, it's really increased my sputum... I went from 1 to 10 on a scale. Though the excess mucus/sputum is irritating, I look at it as a good thing. I'm getting the bacteria out of my lung.

I have the same problem. Have had MAC for three years. I cough a lot; but do not cough up much mucus. Oten it is just foam. Will check to see if related to sinus. Saw my Pulmonoligist and took and xray. Didn't show anything.

I am glad to hear you are nebulizing, and that it helps.
When I have sticky mucus, my go-to treatments are sips of water to help it get unstuck, and sucking on Gin-Gins (ginger candy.) They have hard and chewy versions and even a sugar free version.
I do not see what castor oil does - if you are drinking it, aren't you afraid of the laxative effect? And if you are rubbing it on your neck, it is anatomically impossible for it to penetrate to your throat. Maybe the stroking action is relaxing your throat muscles and allowing the mucus to slide down. Please see what the highly respected Cleveland Clinic, which has a Functional and Alternative Medicine Department has to say:

Hello, thank you for your input. Yes, it absolutely works! Have you heard of castor oil packs? A very effective way to detox your liver, is with castor oil packs. The castor oil goes deep under the tissue, as previously mentioned. So this is no different. It also heals wounds, shrinks cysts, relieves arthritis pain, and much more.

It doesn't matter to me if any of you believe it, I was only sharing my experience to help others. Through my experience and other people's testimonies, I know for a fact what all castor oil does. I can find a thousand articles that will counter the one you shared. It is obvious to me that the writer of that article didn't write it based on experience. I've had many of my own doctors share incorrect information on vitamins and opinions on alternative treatments. It's not an area they are educated on. Doctors are trained on treating symptoms. And I respect them for their profession. Though there are some things they are not trained on.

I have a health channel where we talk and share on different health topics. Doctors opinions are a common topic.

castor oil packs are a definite thing! It does penetrate. And you are so correct about Drs not being trained in certain areas and giving incorrect information.
