newly diagnosed by heart saver scan

Hi! 52-year old female with no risk factors except high cholesterol. I got a heart saver scan and it said my ascending thoracic aorta is 4.6 cm.
Does anyone know if that's an accurate measurement? The number is pretty scary, and I am seeing a cardiologist next week. I was wondering if any of your doctors had put restrictions on flying. I am supposed to go on a trip with my husband and I would like to travel if possible.

Thanks so much.

I've got 4.8 measurement and my doctor has given me no restriction on flying. For me, the biggest concern is around keeping my blood pressure in a good place. My doctor had me buy a blood pressure cuff- so I could take it at home on a regular basis. I've tried a couple and I like the Omron best. He told me to take it 3x each morning (no time break needed) and to take the average of the 3. The Omron has an app that does that automatically. The biggest physical restriction is generally about lifting things, and particularly about being very careful not to hold your breath when lifting. It can cause a spike in your blood pressure. My guess is that most restrictions are personalized around how big the aneurysm is, how controlled the blood pressure is, and if there are any other health concerns. Best of luck to you! The time between discovering an aneurysm and getting an appointment is very stressful... But as I told my wife, I was glad not to be considered an emergency patient that needed to be seen right away!

Hi, I was originally diagnosed with a 4.7 TAA a year ago. Two weeks ago it was measured as 4.6. I specifically asked my Cardiologist if it was OK for me to fly to Europe for a vacation ( I don't have one planned, but I can dream). She said yes, but to wear compression socks and walk periodically while on the flights. Keep your blood pressure and stress level low. No heavy lifting
