Optometrist prescribed Perservision Areds2. I tend to have dry eye as I have UC/Chrons. And am frequently dehydrated. Stable for years. I am very careful with my diet and after a month of taking these PA2 I was sick!! Nauseated, bloated, chronic burping, couldn’t eat, exhausted, weak & insomnia. I am absolutely pissed as I questioned the doctor about my digestive issues and he said “ no problem” BIG PROBLEM for me! Stopped dosage and feel great. There should be more studies about usage for people with digestive issues.
They are related
They are related and the confusion began when plant fanciers centuries ago mistook pelargoniums as geraniums. Even though we now know the difference, we still mostly just call them all geraniums because it seems simpler — and in our mild climate we can grow both as perennials. http://www.mercurynews.com › 2021/11/26 › bay-area-gardening-qa-marigolds-and-geraniums
Bay Area Gardening Q&A: Marigolds and geraniums
My ophthalmologist prescribed Preservision AREDS2. The first time I took it I had neurologic side effects (have tremor, tiredness and weakness) and stopped taking it after a couple of days. The second time I tried to take it I took it for several days and all my neurologic problems increased and I felt terrible. I stopped taking it and will not take it again.
I've been taking Preservision AREDS2 for a few months (only one at night) and started having tremors during the night. My cardiologist put me on a heart monitor for 30 days. I didn't think it was palpitations as it felt like shaking inside. I have just recently seen a couple of web sites where people have said they are having these tremors related to these eye vitamins, so I stopped taking them a couple of days ago. I have been feeling absolutely horrible. I already feel better but not quite back to normal, after just the couple of days without them. I'm hoping that it will be better within a few more days of not taking them. I felt anxious and very fatigued as they were waking me up several times during the night. I will not take these eye vitamins again. I've tried a couple of times with different ones and I just can't take them.
I ended up trying one with fewer ingredients, areds upset my stomach. Brand for me is procaps labs. There are all kinds out there to help you isolate your intolerance.
YEs, i have been gaining weight and just today i thought to myself i wonder it it is because of those AREDS2 pills that i am taking. which is why i did an internet search and found your comment. I am going to stop taking them. I did find one other comment who said the same thing.
My eye doctor recommended Areds2 for preventing further macular degeneration. I ordered the Bausch and Lomb brand and took one with my breakfast. I had stomach pain and a little nausea for the next two days. I am all for prevention of retina problems especially with a supplement, but this was more discomfort than I care to have. I am wondering what is in this product that causes this problem. I never have stomach aching like this unless I have an intestinal virus or food poisoning.

The B&L Preservision has far too much Zinc and Vitamin E. I believe it is especially problematic if one also takes a multivitamin which also contains the vitamins/minerals that are in the AREDS. Quite frankly, it causes an over dose situation. Also, if one takes other individual vitamins/minerals one has to cross check those with the AREDS.
I recommend that you read this whole thread. There is a lot of good information in it that will help you make a decision as to whether you will continue with Preservision or not, or indeed, any AREDS product.
I made the personal decision to discontinue taking any due to the debilitating intestinal problems that it caused, which continued to worsen over the years, but stopped as soon as I stopped taking the AREDS. It has been a year and a half since I stopped taking them and I have had no change in my AMD.
It didn’t upset my stomach but I had a much worse side effect. I experienced an incredible muscle weakness to a point that I could barely function. After 2 months I was unable to climb stairs to a point that I felt paralyzed. It was dramatic and debilitating. After quitting AREDS2, I was back to normal! I lost most of the summer; never imagined vitamins and minerals could be so dangerous.
I have been taking two a day for three months. I woke up one day and my balance is totally off. I find my self using furniture and walls for balance or my husbands arm if we were out and about. Have had brain mri and every heart test you can think of. Saw a vestibular physical therapist. Nobody can find anything. Last test was for Lymes. It was negative. I quit taking Areds 1 week ago after reading this forum. I’m having to wing it trying things out . Can’t get into ENT or Neurologist till late November. How long did it take for you to get better after stopping Areds?

I had the same problems and found the Areds had way too much zinc. I now take just lutein capsules with no zinc. No GI or other side effects.
Thank you.

My recovery was immediate. The day I stopped taking Preservision, my symptoms, which were digestive tract issues, went away.
