Grover's Disease: What works to help find relief?
I have been diagnosed with Grover's disease under my breasts. I had a biopsy for diagnosis. Tried topical ointment with no really good results. Any ideas?

Have you tried Cilantro smoothies yet? Also, and I know it’s not convenient, but putting ice packs on the areas that itch is very effective. Some people put their bed sheets in the freezer before retiring.
I felt like I was reading my own Grover’s journey when reading what you’re going through. I’m at 2-1/2months and have done all you’ve done and each day that I think it’s getting better, I have another outbreak. I’ve been drinking cilantro smoothies for three weeks now as many people on this blog swear they help. So far I can’t tell they’re helping but I’m afraid to stop them just in case. I too am having a terrible time sleeping unless I take Benadryl and even then I’m not getting enough hours. It’s so exhausting!! I’m on topical steroids, Sarna and Caladryl, ice cold aloe gel, cool showers and I’ve upped all my vitamins and bought new bras. I have no idea if any of this is working. I keep reading this blog for any new thing I haven’t tried and I thank everyone who contributes their ideas, as my Drs know less than I do about Grover’s at this point. I wish you well (and a really good nights sleep). I pray we all could get rid of this affliction.
Were you diagnosed by biopsy for Grover’s? I was told it’s necessary. I have Nystop also and I’m going to try it on an area of my rash to see if it helps. Why not, I’ve tried everything else!! 😀. Maybe I’ll get lucky too. Let us know if the rash stays gone!
Find a way to read all the comments that refer to the cilantro/chlorella smoothies you can. They work for a lot of people but sadly, not me. I think I got a little benefit from NB UVB light treatments. I use Eucerin Anti Itch for temporary relief like overnight or waking hours. At night I take Hydroxyzine. I found out two days ago I have shingles and that's a new experience. So far, it's a different kind of itch and not as painful as I expected. I started Valtrex a few hours after getting my red spots so maybe that's helping. I didn't get Grover's until a month or two after retiring so I've never had to sit at a desk itching all day.
I have been reading comments but haven’t found the recipe yet. Thanks for replying!
I was on the same search as you. (Same drugs) my Dr gave me hydroxyzine but I found Benadryl to work so much better but it put me to sleep too. It was great to help me sleep but I was out of it if I took more than one in a day. Just yesterday I started using Claritin 24hr non drowsy and Melatonin to sleep. I had the best sleep I’ve had since April when I first started my Grover’s journey. I didn’t feel drugged either. I took it the Claritin again today, actually just finished playing 7 holes of golf (in Florida!). Showered immediately and lathered in Darna anti itch and I’m still feeling sooo much better. Yes, I still have lesions, bruises, and itchiness “in the background” so I know my Grover’s is not gone, but right now if I get a few hours of relief I’m thankful. Please people, look at the positive while you’re searching for a relief or even a cure. It’s the only thing to keep you sane. I keep reminding myself that yes, this is a horrible affliction, but I could be in pain or laying in hospice with no hope to live. I have terrible days/hours but I keep telling myself tomorrow will be better. I’ve had many friends w cancer and a great attitude to get them thru it. We need the same attitude.
This sunburn gel feels so good on my Grover’s burning skin
I’ve never tried this, but I have a large aloe gel in my fridge that feels so good when my rash is horribly inflamed. I’ll check yours out too!!
If this is your first outbreak and you're only 2 1/2 months into it, you can hope that like many of us the first is the longest and most severe. Mine lasted 1 full year and covered my entire upper and lower torso, front to back from my neck down to pubic hair. Then 6 months on and 6 months off was my cycle for about 4 years . The recurring outbreaks didn't cover my chest and were somewhat less severe. My sides and breast were never affected which does make the tie in to sun damage seen legit. I hope your sides are clear. I trained myself to only sleep on a side and never move, as any friction or pressure added to the misery.
I also used Flanax, a topical capsacian (hot chilies). It would initially burn, but within a few seconds the nerves must have been confused and the itch and pain would subside for about 20 minutes which could give me enough time to fall asleep. Surprisingly the initial burn was not an issue because any escape from the itching was a relief. Do not apply with bare hands in case you rub your eyes after wards. The trouble is if you are broken out over a large area it's simply too much to cover from this small bottle.
Yes like the rest of us you will learn more (not much is known though) about GD then any dermatologist.
My Grover’s is from scalp (skipping my face) down to my upper knees, breasts included. The most inflamed is my chest and back. I keep aloe gel in the fridge and when applied it’s sooo cold it too scares the itch for abt 20-30 minutes which feels like heaven. I’m drinking the cilantro smoothies daily and taking 24hr Claritin and melatonin to help me sleep. I’ve upped all my vitamins that affect skin and immunity. Wearing a bra is killing me and I need one as I’m heavy breasted but also without it when I sweat under my breasts the rash goes crazy there. I had a three day break this past week from spreading rash so of course I thought it was going away but woke up this morning w my chest and back raging. But so thankful for a little break!! I had tried 3other antihistamine products to no avail but the Claritin seems to help me tolerate. Amazing how we Groverers have such differences in what helps. I appreciate your insight and pray you’re right abt the first episode being the worst. Oh, abt heat…I played golf for the first time in weeks yesterday so I’m thinking that’s why I’m suffering again today.
