pressing on aortic Abdominal aneurysms

Posted by James @8570, Jul 10 9:08pm

I am 81 yrs, is it dangerous for someone to press with 2 hands on the area of the abdominal aortic aneurysm that I have it was moniterd by annual ultra sound then changed to a scan ( i worry also about the countless xrays I have had a Doc told me 45 yeas ago he didn't want me to have any more xrays, always being checked for TB when young) I am worried more about pressure being applied firmly to that area I wouldn't survive the operation so I wonder if someone is speeding my demise I am aplone for years no support. Regards, James Fraser.

Hi James. I’m a layperson but in my opinion making it intact to age 81 sounds to me like your body is quite tolerant to X-rays/radiation etc, so maybe in the context of your aneurysm issue, potential effects of radiation is a lesser concern.? Re; pressing on your abdomen, I assume it would depend on the size of the aneurysm; I would assume only if the aneurysm was really large it might be a risk ? I assume it is a basic diagnostic test to see if you’re experiencing pain in anyway from the aneurysm. Might be an idea for you to be proactive and see your specialist and ask questions about it in order to give yourself some peace of mind. Best of luck from a fellow worrier……

thank you, hospital found the aneurysm while looking for damage from a fall. Family Doc started annual ultrasound. What I understand it is a hellish way to shuffle off. No specialist. Thankyou I appreciate any information. Regards
