My aortic aneurysm is 5.0

I have an aortic root aneurysm. I’m not a doctor and I don’t know you but my cardiovascular surgeon said it was at 1.7 5 years ago and is still the same.
I’m waiting for an answer. I went to and echocardiogram yesterday and I’m waiting for my next appointment. 5.0 is supposed to be the magic number.
I went to a different hospital and he said my aneurysm was at 4.7 and torn. My aneurysm size is close to the 5 cm surgery. It is already torn and I’m on warfarin.
It was an emergency visit nothing to do with aneurysms but they said they had to send me to a trauma hospital for emergency surgery if needed.

The other hospital said that I had one near the 5cm threshold but it wasn’t bleeding and discharged me that day
Doctor said even though it was not bleeding they felt like I am stable enough to go home. But to make sure you are safe. He laughed when I told him that one hospital sent me to a trauma hospital for surgery.
He was annoyed by my presence because he had people who had appointments to catch up with. He never called me back because it could open up and burst and he didn’t want anything to do with me.
I had a new cardiovascular cardiologist and my report will be released

I'd like to invite @alafleur, @fjc1962, @harvlori and @bobbyknik who all posted about their aneurysms reaching 5.0.

@ronnie4685, those are two considerably different measurements. 5.0 is the general rule measurement where surgery is considered by many providers. It is understandable that waiting 6 months has caused some anxiety and wondering. Were you advised on any lifestyle changes during this waiting period?

I was put on an increased dose of blood pressure med (5mg perindoprill), up from previous dose of 2.5mg

I'm a 69 year old male diagnosed with an abdominal aorta aneurism over a year ago. Currently, it measures 5 cm according to my vascular surgeon. In order to get an accurate measurement he ordered a CT scan as ultrasound are only two deamentional. He doesn't want to mess with it until it's at least 5.5 cm. I go next week to see if it's gotten bigger. I'm a candidate for robotic surgery should he decide to operate. I've know people who have had this procedure done and have confidence in my surgeon at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. Blood pressure, cholesterol, and exercise are all key to a healthy recovery. Hi Justin yes my cardiologist said no heavy lifting I do not drink or smoke I walk every day and have a good diet my BP is good I’m going back to my surgeon in September this would be 6 months from last scan Dr Safi said no surgery now and he will get a good measurement and advise me on next steps

I'm in a very similar situation as you. I have a 4.5 aortic root aneurysm. My blood pressure got up to 197/124 pulse at 53 in April of 2024. I went the emergency room. Dr ran a whole bunch of test. The minute I told him about my aneurysm. He completely changed. He said that their hospital was not equipped to handle my situation. Told me to go home an call my cardiologist in the morning. Most of the blood work he had ordered had came back abnormal. But he didn't want to talk about any of it. I was disheartened about the whole situation. I'm from a small community that I really enjoy. I don't want to move to a urban community just have a hospital ready to help. I guess if anything does happen I'll have to rely on life flite.

Run of the mill cardiologists aren't equipped to handle it either. You need a second opinion from a doctor that specializes in these things.
